University of Calgary, January 2021

Updated:   Published

Hey everyone! I am planning to apply to the degree holder route for nursing at the University of Calgary for January 2021. I found this site by reading through the University of Calgary, January 2020 forum and thought it would be good to start one for this next years in take.

I am currently finishing my English prerequisite and my anatomy and physiology course at Athabasca. Last year it looked like the GPA cut off was a 3.6 and that most people over a 3.7 got accepted.

Hello, long time lurker here. Has anyone been offered admission recently? My GPA is around 3.5 and I am still waiting for them to make a decision. The wait is excruciating, I must say.

Hi,

I was recently waitlisted with a 3.6 GPA. I called admissions and a 3.6 is currently the cutoff.

Oh wow! Seems like you stand a better chance, based on your GPA. Good luck!

Are you going for Degree Holder or Degree Transfer? I have 3.58 as Degree Holder and got declined last week after initially being on the waitlist.

I'm also a Degree Holder. At this point, I'm just discouraged.

Super annoyed. Calgary waitlisted me with a 3.6 which confused me because I had calculated my GPA as a 3.7

I called admissions only to find out that they took a course that I received a B in for my art requirement when I had originally submitted and syllabus for a class I had an A in. They took it up with the art department and turns out the class I originally submitted is transferable so they approved that and I’m now at the 3.7 that I initially calculated. Only thing is they still have me placed on the waitlist when this was a mistake on their end. I don’t know how to go about this. I’m an international student and there is a lot that comes with moving to Calgary, especially with COVID-19 restrictions that makes this even more difficult to be left to the last minute.

Allison please contact ********, she’s a nursing admission officer. She is AMAZING! I think she will fix your application.

Thank! I’ve already been in contact with admissions and they disclosed that they had filled the nursing program before they had completed my course assessments. They said I would’ve been accepted with the 3.6 regardless, but they had filled the program. So now I have to hope for the waitlist.

I don’t think that is true...... I know someone that got in with a 3.7 already ? and apparently anyone with a 3.6 is waitlisted. And there are 18 seats left in our courses so spots aren’t filled up yet.

Also I’ve spoken to admissions, office of the registrar, and the nursing student advisor regarding my situation a few months ago, and none of them did anything to help me. You have to contact a specific nursing admissions officer to get things straightened out.

Congratulations to those who are newly admitted! Best of luck as you enter into this exciting career. For those on the waitlist, don't lose hope! Keep pushing as nursing is certainly a marathon

Hey guys, has anyone had any luck getting off the waitlist yet? Or a timeline of when UofC might be looking to fill more seats?

Thanks!

Hi!
I just called an advisor and they were saying that they’re hoping to notify people on the waitlist by December 15th... this is absolutely insane. Maybe you could call and see what they say? That is super last minute to notify students.
