University of British Columbia (UBC) BSN September 2016 Applicants

Published

For all of us applying to UBC's BSN 2016 program, let's communicate, share and give encouragement to one another throughout the process.

I just submitted my general UBC application to get the ball rolling early, and it already gave me access to get started on my supplemental application. This is my second time applying, so I hope to do a better job on my app this year and at least get an interview. But I have also accepted that this may not be my fate and I have other options.

Incidentally, to others who also applied previously: I phoned to make sure all my transcripts were still on file, and they are not! UBC admissions discards everything from last year. So I have six transcripts to send in again (including high school). Expensive and time consuming, and also seems a little crazy in the age of computers that they didn't keep electronic copies. But, we do what we have to do... Good luck everyone!

Hi guys,

Anybody from Manitoba?

For one of the sections, is it okay to write about one thing and expand on it? For example, I've volunteered in a hospital, but switched positions every year.

For sure! I wrote entire paragraphs on some of mine last year.

I am currently in the UBC nursing program, I started this September. I was accepted on my first application. One piece of advice for filling out the supplemental is do not just make a big long list of things you have done and accomplishments rather write it in paragraph form detailing your activities. Good luck to you all!

Hi vonkapoko, thanks for sharing tips ! :)

It's nearing the deadline for this year's applicants to submit the supplemental.

Do you mind sharing your stats for last year's admission?

They always say 80% but they seem to have risen from 2012 where the average was about 77 (which I read on other posts).

Hi baldeagle! If you look on the very bottom of the 2015 thread I posted a lot of information there regarding my application. If there's still something you want to know feel free to ask me more questions!

Hi thanks vonkapoko! I've definitely read your past post, but I didn't know it was yours :D

I'm trying to finish the last bits for my supplemental...but I'm in doubt if this is really what they're looking for. I feel like I have plenty of experience but I'm not very confident in my writing.

I'm nervous if my writing skills might work against me and I feel like I'm writing cliches and stating the obvious...

The essay question seems reaaaally open-ended. I'm so nervous.

Hi Alexxy. Don't worry I'm with you :) and probably many others.

I just got an email from the nursing admissions and they said the interview format changed to increase applicant accessibility and that the info about the interview will be given once one gets an interview.

What kinds of stuff are people putting in for "memberships held?" I have a ton of volunteer work, but I don't think that would apply?

Hi. Those were the exact problems I had too.

I put my invovlement in student clubs -which I was going to write for leadership :( but had to move it to the membership section.

For volunteering, I feel as though they don't fit exactly into the membership section...or I'm not 100% sure myself. I think to be safe it might be better if you put things like ... membership experiences in a club or your position in a lab or something like that.

Anyone else have any ideas? :)
