Hey All!
I have applied for Union's Spring 2014 ABSN program at Hendersonville. I submitted all of my application material on April 16 and NursingCAS finalized/"verified" & forwarded my application to Union on May 1. I am still anxiously waiting to hear something back! Are there any other applicants out there for Spring 2014? Have you heard anything back yet? Best of luck to any of you!
Yes, that's about the amount I took out extra. When I log into the portal and check my financial aid award history it says I am awarded the med cap loan and that union has accepted it. I haven't received any information as to when I will receive the extra money, so I just assumed it was when union received the money for tuition from Wells Fargo, then I would be direct deposited the extra amount. But like I said, I do not know that for sure.
I spent 5 years working at UNC Hospital. I spent 3 years working in the GYN Oncology clinic as a referral coordinator & then I spent 2 years working on the back end in billing & insurance. I had the privilege (total sarcasm!) of sitting on the phone with insurance companies all day trying to get surgeries approved & working with the doctors & nurses to fight the insurance companies on denials. I was glad to get away to say the least! My husband was offered a job here in Nashville about a year ago & since I was pregnant at the time, we decided at that point to live off of one income & have me stay home with our kids. So I can totally relate to your fears of going down to one income! It's scary at first bc it's the unknown, but I promise you, you will learn through trial & error how to make it work!
I also got the MedCap loan through Wells Fargo to help us pay for daycare. My loan was just approved yesterday, but it won't come until after classes start. I also applied for stafford/perkins loans, but I'm still waiting on official word on those.
Wow you have tons of working experience. I have worked with community health systems for only 4 months just to make some extra money before classes start. This company manages hospitals in 29 states and counting but just seeing a speck of what goes on in the medical world has been really exciting. I couldn't even imagine going into school with all the knowledge you have! How log did it take for your loan to be approved? I'm getting nervous now hearing both you and Ashley already applied because my banker said to wait until the first of the year.
Hey 4 months can teach you A LOT!! Both of you have great experiences to bring to the program!!
I was told by Wells Fargo to hold off also, but I had to figure out some of my finances immediately & couldn't wait. The process went really quick with them, so I'd imagine you'd be fine if you waited until then.
Dana- you do have a lot of experience! I've been keeping this little girl (I say little, she's actually 20 but she can pass for 12, so she eats off the kids menu at restaurants :) ) for about 6 years now. It's almost not even really like work to me anymore, she's basically like my kid or sister! Lol. But it has been very rewarding & I feel like I have some experience from dealing with her doctors appointments & check ups, scans, hospital visits, drug trials etc.
We don't have any babies yet (and hopefully won't until this 15 months is over with) I don't know how I could do it with kids too! You must be a very good multi tasker!! I'm very organized/OCD, but still think I might go crazy if I had kiddos!!
I am also planning on the stafford loan as well. I logged into the web advisor where you fill out the FERPA deceleration & it has our grades & class schedules.. Well I went to the financial aid portion & it says I have been awarded & union has accepted my Wells Fargo loan, but that I was denied the stafford loan (which isn't good because I was planning on getting both). No one told me of this, I just happens to have seen it browsing through, so may want to check to see the status of yours as well. I emailed the financial aid office to see what I need to do in order to be awarded the stafford, but they are out until Monday. So if yours happens to say the same thing, I will let you know once I heard from them.
Tessa- I think the whole process of the medcap loan was maybe a 2-3 week period after everything was filled out/approved & sent to union. Make sure wen you apply that you fill it out as an undergraduate/senior level or mostly likely it will be denied. Mine was at first, because I accidentally chose freshman level and ended up having to have an underwriter underwrite it on my credit & change it to senior level so that I could be awarded the total amount I was asking. Just letting you know incase you run into that issue as well!
Thanks for the heads up! There are a few things that could be the reason the stafford didnt go through. If you are a dependent it can have to do with your parents income being too high. Or it can be declined by your age/status independent vs dependent. I qualify for less stafford loan this round than previously because I am still a dependent vs independent and unfortunately in the eyes of the government the second degree isn't worth funding because so many people need help with the first degree. It's definitely a bummer there isn't enough money for all degree types but that might be what happened.
Hey everyone! I haven't commented on here in awhile I've been busy with getting everything ready for classes to start. A few of you have mentioned your loans. I took out a Wells Fargo med cap loan. I filled out the paperwork online on 10/31/13. When I first checked the UU portal the loan was not on there. I checked two days ago and it still wasn't on there. I checked today and it has been accepted. So if anyone is still waiting just keep checking. I only took out a small loan to cover whatever my 9/11 Bill won't. I will also be commuting from about an hour away from Oak Grove KY. Someone mentioned thinking they are one of the oldest (DRPierce I think) at 28. HA!!! I'm 36 lol. I'm hoping to keep working until May since my classes after March will be online. I'm looking forward to meeting all you OLD!! 28 year old ladies lol. Good luck to you all!!

Really? I wasn't aware that the bank loan goes through Union I thought they were separate? I am unfortunately very familiar with loans in that never take out what the school budgets! Their estimate is always very high and they add in things like travel, housing, clothes etc. I have always just calculated tuition plus the 1500 a semester extra for books and fees. Everything else I'm sure you and your husband budget for in your everyday lives so no need to double up haha. That's just my opinion. In my first degree they suggested I took out an additional 5000 a semester that I didn't take, luckily because I didn't need it.
