Dana- yes, you too! I'm ready to get started next week. And I guess if they've assured you that you've done anything, if something goes wrong it's not going to be your fault. I received in the mail maybe 3-4 days ago a letter showing my "extra" money or refund money from my med cap loan that I should be receiving. As far as I know my tuition is coming from the stafford and the medcap is for the additional tuition and the rest is for me (books, living expenses, etc). I wouldn't stress about it though, maybe it just hasn't been put into the system yet.

The estimated cost of attendance is 40,000 for the 15 months, but that's also with the university adding in books, fees, living expenses etc. good luck to you! @DRpierce sorry I'm so late on getting on this. But like we were talking about in class today.. My stafford loans hadn't shown up on my account as of 2-3 weeks ago, so I contacted financial aid. Is the stafford showing up at all on your account? Mine had originally said denied, so I completed a loan adjustment form and within a week or so my account said that the loan status was changed from denied to pending and that when the loans are received by the school on feb 11 the status will be changed to awarded. Let me know if any of that sounds like your situation.. I have been emailing Hannah Christensen and she was very helpful!

I just did the online process and made my appointment for 1:30 tomorrow. They didn't give us much notice at all! Thanks for the heads up!

Dana- you do have a lot of experience! I've been keeping this little girl (I say little, she's actually 20 but she can pass for 12, so she eats off the kids menu at restaurants :) ) for about 6 years now. It's almost not even really like work to me anymore, she's basically like my kid or sister! Lol. But it has been very rewarding & I feel like I have some experience from dealing with her doctors appointments & check ups, scans, hospital visits, drug trials etc. We don't have any babies yet (and hopefully won't until this 15 months is over with) I don't know how I could do it with kids too! You must be a very good multi tasker!! I'm very organized/OCD, but still think I might go crazy if I had kiddos!! I am also planning on the stafford loan as well. I logged into the web advisor where you fill out the FERPA deceleration & it has our grades & class schedules.. Well I went to the financial aid portion & it says I have been awarded & union has accepted my Wells Fargo loan, but that I was denied the stafford loan (which isn't good because I was planning on getting both). No one told me of this, I just happens to have seen it browsing through, so may want to check to see the status of yours as well. I emailed the financial aid office to see what I need to do in order to be awarded the stafford, but they are out until Monday. So if yours happens to say the same thing, I will let you know once I heard from them. Tessa- I think the whole process of the medcap loan was maybe a 2-3 week period after everything was filled out/approved & sent to union. Make sure wen you apply that you fill it out as an undergraduate/senior level or mostly likely it will be denied. Mine was at first, because I accidentally chose freshman level and ended up having to have an underwriter underwrite it on my credit & change it to senior level so that I could be awarded the total amount I was asking. Just letting you know incase you run into that issue as well!

Yes, that's about the amount I took out extra. When I log into the portal and check my financial aid award history it says I am awarded the med cap loan and that union has accepted it. I haven't received any information as to when I will receive the extra money, so I just assumed it was when union received the money for tuition from Wells Fargo, then I would be direct deposited the extra amount. But like I said, I do not know that for sure.

Yeah I understand completely. I am lucky that I have no debt from my first degree. So this is definitely very different for me to have to have so much debt linked to a degree. My original plan was to complete my psychology degree, then attend TSU for Occupational therapy, but I wasn't accepted into the program. So I looked into different options & now I'm just very excited to start at Union & get into nursing. My long term goal is to go to nurse practitioner school, but I think that may be down the road. I believe you are in the franklin area? I will be coming from the other side of Lebanon.. I believe I am north east of you. I'll take I40 west to highway 109 and take that into Hendersonville. So I think we both had the same length of drive, but I think we will be coming from different directions. My student loan through Wells Fargo has been accepted through union as of about 2 weeks ago, I am not working on completing everything for the stafford loan. I really have no idea how all this loan stuff works so my parents have been helping us out with completing everything. I didn't apply for the full amount that union recommended for extra things like fees, books, etc, but I did apply for some.. And from what I understand, I won't receive that "Extra" money until classes start. So books & anything I buy at orientation in January will come out of pocket until I receive the money from Wells Fargo. And like I said, I may be wrong on that, but that's kind of how I took it.

Yeah that doesn't seem too bad for books on amazon actually! I plan to work on ordering books next week probably. I graduated in May & since then I have just doubled my hours at work for this semester. I take care of a little girl with disabilities, I work through a company called TPA. I plan to continue to work as well at least through May. I am able to make my schedule for months in advance, so I've ready planned to work every Thursday afternoon after class & maybe pick up 1 or 2 more days a week (if possible). I am married so we will be relying on my husbands income for the most part, but like I said, I plan to try to work 10-15 hours a week when I can. I have completed all my loan applications & was very stressed about it at first especially, but now I've tried to not think about it since I won't have to worry about paying them back till 6 months after graduation.. Figured that's when I will start stressing out all over again lol. I'm glad to find someone who has a long commute like me, that pRt has been worrying me some too, not so much for this first semester, but when there are more classes/days starting during the second session.

Yes I agree completely! I've been a nervous wreck, mostly because I'm not going to be able to work as much as I always have while being in school & because of how far my drive is. But I think we will all be fine once we are in the program & get into the swing of things.. I think the "not knowing how it's gonna be" is what's making us all crazy!

Dana- yeah I agree! The only reason I contemplated keeping mine was for pictures & family in different states as well.. But al lot of mine are on IG now! But I agree totally!! I have 2 books already, the APA manual (I have that from my psychology undergrad) and then I so have the issues in nursing book from a friend who just finished nursing school. I plan to look into renting mine through chegg if they have them. They're decently cheap & that's where I got the majority of my psychology books. Also, my friend who jugs graduated nursing school said that typically they recommend you get the most recent editions of the books, but that the previous edition of the books are almost exactly the same & are typically a lot cheaper.. So that may be the route I go with getting my books. & yes, this board has made me feel a lot more comfortable as well!

Tessa- yeah me & my husband deleted ours almost 2 years ago.. too much drama & I love not having one! IG & Pinterest are way better :) I will be commuting from Alexandria which is about 50 miles one way/ close to a 1 hour drive. I already have CPR through my current job, but mine expires in December.. My work usually re certs us when ours expires but I haven't heard any information on that yet. That and my TB skin test are the last 2 things I have left to do on that immunization/to-do list. Also- DANA, I finally got logged into the portal, idk what the problem was before, but it was very frustrating!

Hey Tessa! I'm 22 as well and my first degree was also in Psychology! I am originally from Mount Juliet, TN but have lived in Alexandria, TN for almost 3 years now. Like yourself, I also not on facebook so I've been using this to get to know people as well! I'm ready to start bCk into the swing of things. I graduated from TTU back in May & having this semester off has been a real change for me. January-March I have night class Tuesday nights (6-845) morning class Wednesday 830-1230 & morning class Thursday 800-12 plus the online class. March- may I will have the same night class on Tuesdays (6-845) and morning class Mondays & Thursdays 830-1230 with the 2 online classes. It's nice to meet you & my name is Ashley :)
