What do you all think of current nursing wear. it kills me to go up to a adult floor and see RN's wearing all these crazy looking tops with cartoons and teddy bears on them. personally i see why some of the public looks down to a nurse and is always wanting the DR. We look terrible. I think all floors should have set colors for each positon. RN's, LVN's, PCA's, it gives a sense of order. just wanted to know how others see it, because i just was looking at a web site for nursing uniforms, and i couldn't help but laugh at some of them.
Originally posted by navynurse29GatorRn, while I can appreciate what you are saying about the cheerful tops in what I know first hand can be a very depressing setting, I am not sure I would take the news very well about a loved ones death with Yosemite Sam or Sylvester staring me in the face while I heard about it. Don't get me wrong, I love the Looney Tunes just as much as the next person, I am just not sure the unit is the place for it.
I can guarantee if someone is giving me news about a loved ones death, I could CARELESS what they are wearing.. Probably wouldn't even remember it....
Geesh...
I took my dad with me to a uniform shop shortly after I started school. He wandered around looking at all the "neat" scrubs while I was there buying my whites. After we left, he made the comment about how neat it was that not all nurses have to look just alike and how nice it was to have left the white dress and cap behind. In his opinion, (note - opinion) the different prints make for a "happy" environment. He and I did agree that Blues Clues and Spongebob really belong on a pedes floor but then again, one of my best friends, who is in her mid-30s loves Spongebob so going into her room with that top would be great. I do think that the various scrubs give each of us a bit of independence in expressing our personalities and that it can also help relax a patient - either by being an ice breaker (the chili peppers!) or by subconsciously telling them that this person isn't exactly stuffy. But, here's my question - does stuffy equate to ability in the pts mind?

I worked in the ED, where delivering bad news was not an uncommon event. I never had anyone comment that the news was harder to take because I was wearing scrubs with shamrocks/baseballs/cats, etc. Having been on the end of receiving bad news, I can't recall at all what the nurse and doctor were wearing.
Ugh white....they get dirty faster....hmmm...all accidents show on them, don't know about you all but when I worked in the hospital, lots of times on my knees looking for something that rolled under the bed....ect....but I hate too much perfume, really any at all, long nails, long hair getting into patients wounds, sloppy scubs, scruffy dirty shoes, and yes we had a nurse that wore shoes that she shoveled horse manure in to work....couldn't understand why she was made to go home and change....hmmmmm
I DID IN THE PAST HAVE VERY LONG HAIR, BUT I ALWAYS TIED IT BACK. tHE WHOLE THING ABOUT THE PEOPLE THAT ***** ABOUT THE UNIFORMS BUT STILL HAVE WILD LOOKS LIKE MAKEUP FROM OUTERSPACE, SPARKLES IN THE CLEAVAGE, AND EXTREMLY WILDLY PAINTED NAILS AND SUPER LLONG NAILS SHOULD REALLY GET A LIFE BECAUSE THEY ARE GOING AGAINST THE "PROFFESSIONAL CODE OF NURSING" SOMEONE ELSE SAID ITS NOT THE DUDS ITS THE DEEDS. a FUNNY STORY ABOUT IST SEMESTER NURSING. THERE WAS A NEW NURSE THAT I WENT TO SCHOOL WITH THAT GOT SENT HOME ON HER VERY FIRST DAY BECAUSE OF THE FACT THAT YOU COULD SEE EVERYTHING FROM HER THONG UNDERWEAR TO HER CLEAVAGE TYPE BRA BECAUSE OF THE FACT THAT HER UNIFORM WAS ABOUT TWO SIZES TOO SMALL. fUNNY FUNNY, HA, HA. WAS THIS FROM A Media SHOP OR WHAT.

I have been an all whites nurse for years but some of the stuff I see for nurses out now is Great! I love it. High function, great patterns and styles. Give me a nurse wearing Sponge Bob with short nails anyday over a nurse in "whites" (all you do is leave tell tail trails of where you have been and what you have been doing when you wear the white) and long nails and hair in her/his face and mine.
