You know you're Old School when...
in the early 70's i worked in hosp as a aide we were allowed to dc iv's after nurse showed us how the first time,we were taught to insert foley caths ,had metal bedpans and mercury therm. that we used to break so we could play with the mercury,we called the nurses miss or mrs so and so no first names,we'd have pt. admitted to hosp for 4 or 5 days to rest if they wanted to get away from the fmily for a while, remember the smell of ether on surgery days filled the whole hosp.after becoming nurse worked in ltc and wore nursing cap til 1995 and white uniforms and white shoes my how times have changed:nurse:

made a med error
I had been out of nursing school several months and was working in a hospital, the RN gave me the order to give a patient a B12 shot, when i went to the room to give it,i made my first mistake by not checking the wrist band,i called the pt the name on the order and she answered me,not knowing the pt was confused as i had not seen very many confused pt,i gave the shot and went to chart it,then i relized what i had done,i informed the RN who acted like the lady was going to die,and informed me i would have to call the dr and let him know what i had done, this dr was a hard man to get along with ,he liked to belittle nurses all he could, and of course i was scared to talk to him,he must have been having a real good day that day, after i explained to him what i had done,he stated don't worry about it it will probably do her some good and thanked me for calling him,the rn asked me what he said and i told her she could hardly believe it ,that dr was friendly to me from then on

GETTING WRITTEN UP: What is the most ridiculous thing you have been written up for?
I work in LTC,found a med error on a resident done by CMT,I made out the med error sheet at 0300 and got written up cause I hadn't completed the sheet such as notifying the Doc. or the DON,the error was on eye gtts for so many days that hadn't been started as ordered, not only was I written up but suspended from work for 3 days!!! and I didn't even make the med error!! the CMT was suspended for 3 days also, you better believe now I make sure every line is completed, all I's dotted and all T's crossed!!!!!
