Hello everyone! I may be a little early with this, but here's a new post for all of you hoping to apply this September 2nd for the Spring 2015 semester at UMSON. You can post questions you have, helpful advice you would like to give (if you're already in the program), etc.

I specifically have a question for those who have already applied to the Spring 2014 semester and got in. When you applied last September, when in November did you get your acceptance letter in the mail? Was it the beginning, middle, or toward the end of November? I'm asking this because the other nursing school I am applying to only gives a 3-week time period after the end of October (when they let you know if you made it in or not) to accept or decline enrollment. So, if I don't make it into UMSON, I'd want to be able to give this other nursing school an answer before the 3-week time period runs out.

I understand of course! I just wasn't sure how far in advance to get the titers or immunizations and how long they were good for until you had to re-do them. The only one that seems to have a short time span is the flu shot, which only fall students have to get, the website said.

Does anyone know how the payment plan works at this school? I do the Terp payment plan at UMD and it was broken down into 5 monthly payments for a semester.

Is it similar at shady grove/baltimore? I don't want to take out loans for the semester and hope to work enough this fall and a bit during the year to cover it. However, thats only possibly if I do a payment plan...

Payment plan is divided into three monthly payments.

For example, for the Fall semester, you pay August, September, and October.

You need to go or call the registration office and set up a payment plan.

Great. I saw the three monthly payment thing on the website but I wasn't sure if it was 3 per semester or for the whole year.

Does anyone know how much fees we have to pay? I see a whole bunch of charges for technology and things, but I'm not sure if I have to pay ALL of them. Which are optional besides insurance?

Well, if you are talking about "optional" fees, the installment payment plan set up fee will cost you 10 bucks.

Naaaaah..I meant like tuition and fees.

Like do we have to pay a technology fee? Or is it optional if you need a computer or something.

or would we need the simulation/clinical fee first semester or would that start second?

katiep_123- Hep B is for a lifetime. Tetorifice- every 10 years. Influenza- yearly. And yes, spring students have to get the influenza vaccine too. They word it funny. Fall students have to prove they received it when it became available, and spring students have to prove they received it before the start of the semester.

littlemango-your mailbox is full! But since this is information that might be useful to all, I will post it here.

(Littlemango had asked me a financial aid question.) In my experience, here's all I had to do to prep for financial aid at UMSON (only to have to turn it down...)

Just make sure your FAFSA is up-to-date. Gather any tax forms or pay stubs, and keep them handy, in case the Financial Aid office needs to see them. It is easier and quicker to submit them if your important papers are all handy. I had to submit some extra information on child support, so if you have any kind of special situation, expect that you will need to send in supporting documentation. And then their Financial Aid office does the rest. Once you're in, everything is on SURFS. There will be a financial aid page, and they post messages for you there. If there are any forms you need to submit, they'll post the form there, with instructions. It's crazy easy. So different, SO, SO, SO very different from FCC!!!!!

Start plotting out your expenses and cut back anything and everything you can, then formulate a budget.

My cousin is in nursing school in Michigan. She can't get private loans, so another cousin started a GoFundMe for her. It launched October 1, and she's already at $1400! That looks like another viable option.

I don't think any fee is optional.

Can, say, I get private loans with a co-signor?

I just got my call! I got in!!
