Hello everyone! I may be a little early with this, but here's a new post for all of you hoping to apply this September 2nd for the Spring 2015 semester at UMSON. You can post questions you have, helpful advice you would like to give (if you're already in the program), etc.
I specifically have a question for those who have already applied to the Spring 2014 semester and got in. When you applied last September, when in November did you get your acceptance letter in the mail? Was it the beginning, middle, or toward the end of November? I'm asking this because the other nursing school I am applying to only gives a 3-week time period after the end of October (when they let you know if you made it in or not) to accept or decline enrollment. So, if I don't make it into UMSON, I'd want to be able to give this other nursing school an answer before the 3-week time period runs out.
I started as a nursing student in Spring '13.
I applied in September of '12 and got my acceptance call and letter by November, right before Thanksgiving.
Don't worry too much about TEAS. Once you get into nursing school, you won't give a crap about TEAS haha.
I had a GPA of 3.5 and TEAS score of 72% along with several months of volunteer experience, and I got in. So, just cross your fingers and pray that you will get in. TEAS BARELY correlate with how well you do in nursing school, and they are considering getting rid of this requirement soon.
4 weeks is a long timegot a low score in my teas and i feel like i won't get accepted for that merely reason. Also, i want to travel out of the country and i would like to buy my tickets as soon as possible which is why i wish they could inform us as soon. Can anyone tell me of other good nursing programs here in MD. Thank you!
@vigor145, in the past, they had the health form on their website, but now it looks like there's a special website to go through, in order to do it all online. They did allow us to submit our own info, without a doc's signature, as long as we had supporting documentation. I hope this is still the case! I spent lots of time at Fed Ex Kinko's, scanning documents! Maybe see if your doctor will do all the immunizations and tests now and then complete the form later. (Hopefully at no extra cost.) I went to Minute Clinic for most of mine, and they were quick, helpful, and affordable. They got really excited when I told them it was for nursing school and shared advice! Because of the ACA, all the immunizations were covered by insurance.
I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you!
As for classes, it's not like at other schools where you have to fight for a spot in the in-demand pre-req's. You are guaranteed a seat in all your classes. The only downside is you don't have much say as to when they are. You're pretty much at the mercy of the school!
And vigor145, my parents said the same thing about it being a moneymaking opportunity. They think the schools are in cahoots. I'm inclined to think there may be something to that notion. Or else it's just pure bad luck on our en! Maybe they assume we're applying to all the same in-state schools, and those that hand out decisions first get the cream of the crop of all statewide applicants. But we don't all apply to multiple schools! Oh, the waiting game! As Homer Simpson once said, "I hate the waiting game. Can't we play Hungry Hungry Hippos?"
I don't think they want the documents in the mail! Before, they said we needed to email everything. And now there's the new online document tracking system, and it looks like you have to submit everything that way. Like I said, I spents lots of time at Kinko's, scanning and emailing. They might let you mail things, but I'd be prepared to do it electronically. I am the most technologically deficient person, so this is always a challenge for me!
