Hello everyone! I may be a little early with this, but here's a new post for all of you hoping to apply this September 2nd for the Spring 2015 semester at UMSON. You can post questions you have, helpful advice you would like to give (if you're already in the program), etc.
I specifically have a question for those who have already applied to the Spring 2014 semester and got in. When you applied last September, when in November did you get your acceptance letter in the mail? Was it the beginning, middle, or toward the end of November? I'm asking this because the other nursing school I am applying to only gives a 3-week time period after the end of October (when they let you know if you made it in or not) to accept or decline enrollment. So, if I don't make it into UMSON, I'd want to be able to give this other nursing school an answer before the 3-week time period runs out.
Hi everyone! I've been reading the posts for some time now and wanted to say Hi! I applied to traditional BSN at Shady Grove, anxiously waiting to hear just like everyone else! I have a question though--does anyone know where to access the physical exam form for UMSON? I don't see reference to it on any of the links for accepted students. I might be missing it entirely, not sure. Thanks in advance!
Good luck to everyone! :)
I am right there with you on the physical!! I called the Assistant Director today (that's who I was routed to) about the deadline for UMSON's physical because I accepted at my #2 school as a back-up and am trying to schedule the physical to meet both deadlines and a health insurance issue (because I already had a physical in early Dec 2013, health insurance won't pay for another until after the 5th).
Anyway.........she didn't call me back. I HOPE that is because she was reviewing applications
snowbound40, welcome to the threeead! I'm glad you asked that question, I've been wondering myself! I feel like I once got access to it online, but it wasn't very obviously shown on the (old) website, probably because what amandac21 said... they'll send it in the mail! Of course, you'll know if you made it in before then, just check SURFS for the status change! Anyway, vigor145 let us know when she calls back!
I scheduled my physical for the 21st of November. Hopefully we'll get our decisions and documents by then, otherwise I'd have to change the appointment. For Towson's application, it didn't specify what type of health provider they wanted to do the assessment, so I was able to get it all done at Employee Health by an RN where I work. I surely hope for UMSON they don't specify doctor or nurse practitioner so I could do this again and save some moolah and cancel the doctor's appointment! EH also did all of my titers for me, no charge, which was very nice (but I wasn't expecting the blood draw to be DIRECTLY AFTER the meeting haha).
Anyway, if anyone knows what type of health professional they want for the health assessment, let us know!!!
Minute Clinic is a great way to get immunizations and such for school. They can't do titers, but they can do physical and all immumizations. Definitely get Hep B asap, since you need 1st two by start of school, and they have to be 1 month apart.
Awesome KayBee009!
Going to send in Towson deposit...and wait.
As for SG class schedule, in the spring, it was class Mon-Thurs and clinicals on Friday. You have a special class to prep you for clinicals, for about 4 weeks before you start them. They're all over the place, so be prepared to get up EARLY and drive ! At least, that's what they told us in orientation.
4 weeks is a long time got a low score in my teas and i feel like i won't get accepted for that merely reason. Also, i want to travel out of the country and i would like to buy my tickets as soon as possible which is why i wish they could inform us as soon. Can anyone tell me of other good nursing programs here in MD. Thank you!
Are you using a specific form for your physical? I know here where I work (Health Room - Elementary School) we require student's to have a physical and the doctor to fill out a specific "Health Inventory Form".
I looked on UMSON's website for "Accepted Students" and did not find anything.
@deavilaxoxo
I do not know what you got on your TEAS, but I have read through most of the past threads for UMSON and there have been people who have gotten in with a score in the 70's%.
It is all dependent on who else applies and what their statistics are. Essentially, you are being rated against everyone else.
Don't worry!! I worried myself to almost CRAZY over my status not changing (it still hasn't BTW).......but that's ok.
Like @afowler77 said........it is pretty much out of our hands. We have lined up our ducks and now we just need to wait!
Good Luck @deavilaxoxo
3-4 weeks seems so long! I was definitely hoping for late October to early November, as were most people!
@deavilaxoxo Sometimes people get accepted with a lower TEAS score that was a few points lower than what they were looking for. Don't get discouraged! You can always retake the TEAS and have chances to do better. I got a low score last time I took it and I retook it again and got a better score, more along the lines of what they were looking for!
Towson, Salisbury both have good nursing programs! Stevenson University has a program also.

amandac21, that would be an amazing birthday gift! Yeah I'm with you on that. I did get my health assessment from Towson done by Employee Health where I work, but I do have an appointment with my primary on your birthday! Haha! Yeah, hopefully... we'll hear back by then!!!
