Hello everyone! I may be a little early with this, but here's a new post for all of you hoping to apply this September 2nd for the Spring 2015 semester at UMSON. You can post questions you have, helpful advice you would like to give (if you're already in the program), etc.
I specifically have a question for those who have already applied to the Spring 2014 semester and got in. When you applied last September, when in November did you get your acceptance letter in the mail? Was it the beginning, middle, or toward the end of November? I'm asking this because the other nursing school I am applying to only gives a 3-week time period after the end of October (when they let you know if you made it in or not) to accept or decline enrollment. So, if I don't make it into UMSON, I'd want to be able to give this other nursing school an answer before the 3-week time period runs out.
deavilaxoxo, they look at the whole picture, so even if your TEAS score is low, there are other factors they can look at! So let's say your experience is amazing, your GPA is great, but you didn't do so well on the TEAS. They may overlook this because the rest of your application is impressive! It all depends. There isn't one way for them to decide if they want you in the program or not. Like Grey Lady says, there are simply too many factors to consider. The TEAS score is just one of them! Oh, and Frederick Community College's program is a very good one as well, however it is an Associate's Degree. Whenever I tell my coworkers or other employees of the hospital, "I'm trying to get into nursing school!" they seem to always ask first, "Are you going to FCC?" followed by, "I heard their program is great!"
vigor145, yeah I couldn't find it in the Accepted Students page. I searched it! But I'm not sure if it'll still be there, since they remodeled the website... Also, yeah for Towson's program, they gave me a form in the mail! So I just brought that in.
I have stellar grades, I am confident my essays were great, but my TEAS scores were not as good as they could be. I only took them once.
You also have life-event's that happen. One of my professor's who wrote a letter of recommendation (it was kick ass!!!), knew so much about me/my personal life. He included that stuff in the letter. Like the fact that my sister took her own life during one of my semester's (he just said passed away) and that my husband and I stepped up to the plate to become guardian's of my nephew, all while working full-time and taking a full course load and helping my mother who had cancer. Or there was the semester I was working full-time, had this new kid in my house, taking a full load of classes and planned my wedding.
THEY LOOK AT EVERYTHING!!!!!!
Wow - that's soon for registration opening, given that many of us still haven't heard (though, for continuing students, that doesn't matter I guess).
I wonder if the schedule for Shady Grove is finalized yet. It looked like some classes had fewer sections than others when I looked at SURFS, and one of the Fundies lab section completely overlapped with another required course for first semester traditional BSN folks (that only had one section)...which is odd...so perhaps they'll open another section (sorry, can't remember which course number).
There's also one required class that meets only on Wed. (and that's the only section). It would be great if they opened up another section of that class on Monday, Tuesday, or Thursday. It would be a pain to commute to campus for only one class.
@usedtobecool84 My husband is convinced it is a money making business!! All the universities are working against each other. You get accepted at your #2 choice and are forced to pay that expensive, non-refundable seat fee, because #1 choice is taking forever to decide and just in case your #1 choice doesn't come through.

Notre Dame of MD, Morgan State, Bowie state, UMUC, Frostburg, and Coppin State also have nursing programs. UMUC program is fairly new though.
