Hello everyone! I may be a little early with this, but here's a new post for all of you hoping to apply this September 2nd for the Spring 2015 semester at UMSON. You can post questions you have, helpful advice you would like to give (if you're already in the program), etc.

I specifically have a question for those who have already applied to the Spring 2014 semester and got in. When you applied last September, when in November did you get your acceptance letter in the mail? Was it the beginning, middle, or toward the end of November? I'm asking this because the other nursing school I am applying to only gives a 3-week time period after the end of October (when they let you know if you made it in or not) to accept or decline enrollment. So, if I don't make it into UMSON, I'd want to be able to give this other nursing school an answer before the 3-week time period runs out.

Ah, vigor145, then the status-changing process must be spontaneous.

gummycoco, I'm certain we'll see a change soon! Though, this is but a trivial worry. Imagine what it will be like when we are awaiting our decisions! :nailbiting:

Hey everyone! So I applied to UMSON for the fall and got wait listed. However there wasn't any more room in the program so I opted to move my application to the spring. I also applied to Towson like most of you from what I read. This whole process has been so nerve wrecking. I got accepted to duke SON in the summer but could not attend due to no financial assistance from the school (100k for 16 months!) so we'll see where I end up for the spring.

If the backend of SURFS is anything like the systems we use at my job...updating it may be a manual PITA process, so I wouldn't be surprised if it takes a while for "committee-readys" to filter through. I'd rather they prioritize getting my app out to the committee as quickly as possible instead of updating SURFS.

That being said, I'm still waiting as well. That's a bit of a bummer that Shady Grove tends to hear back on the later side :(.

futureRN1913 I'm sure you'll get in to one of the program! Like what afowler77 said...

Because we ARE going to get in SOMEwhere! We HAVE to!

usedtobecool84 it could be a few days afterward or maybe around the same time! Also, people might already be accepted with the online status not updated. My understanding now is that it is all spontaneous, but from a previous cycle it seemed like after a few days of acceptances going out, GreyLady announced she was finally going to start calling Shady Grove students! (She sounded very excited too!) So we'll see. Gah!

I know if I were to get accepted I would have to quit, but I started a new job as a Health Room Nurse Technician. The stress of a new job, my awful commute (Baltimore to Montgomery County) along with this whole application waiting period has me bursting at my seams!!! I am driving my husband crazy!! :dead:

:( I feel like many people dont understand how stressful it is to get into nursing school. How is the commute vigor145? I plan on commuting from Montgomery Country to Baltimore if I get accepted.

@amandac21......The main leg of my route is 29. In the morning it flows.......in the evening it barely crawls. Takes me 1 hour 45 minutes to get from Silver Spring to Baltimore County/Baltimore City Line in the evening.

The thing you have working in your favor is that you will be moving against traffic/opposite direction!!!

I'm in the guaranteed admission pool and we are supposed to get our letters of acceptance a few weeks before everyone else. This is so they know how many general applicants they can admit after the guaranteed admission folks. We haven't gotten anything at all yet, and my SURF account still says committee ready for shady grove.

So I would guess its gonna be a while for the traditional applicants.

Any one here Shady grove? if so lets chat! Everyone in my program at College Park is going to Baltimore so i'll be one lonely duck!

kirstens thanks for the info, and that's awesome! You must be doing the 2+2 program at UMCP to have guaranteed admission! I'm trying out for Shady Grove (haven't gotten my Committee Ready yet though), and I actually just heard of the 2+2 program about a month ago from a student of mine who goes to UMCP whose friend is also doing the program! In a way, I kind of feel like I should have also done it in the first place. :bluecry1: Though, I heard it is not well known, so oh well! Hopefully if I get in, you won't be a lonely duck! (Also, how awesome is it that you'll be getting a free ride to and from every day, assuming you'll still be on campus at UMCP? Just a guess! What will your living situation be?)

vigor145 hang in there! We'll know soon. For now, just try to manage your current situation! I'm guessing there will be alot of new things coming into your life these next few months, but try not to worry about it all!

amandac21 I know, getting into nursing school for me (and alot of you ladies out there!) has been stressful so far, especially now since we don't know if we are in or not. But like I said to vigor145, it'll all be settled soon. We've done the classes, did all the paperwork... now we just have to wait for those decisions! I know UMSON is a pretty competitive school to get into, but I believe we are all capable of getting in! (Also, against traffic? That's a win-win!)

They are JUST making it known that this program exists. They revamped it this semester and are actually advertising it. Before this CP didnt want people to know about it, because schools get graded based upon how many freshman they retain. However i think they worked it out so everyone wins (:

I live in Laurel now and commute...So I will have to drive to campus. However Baltimore and Shady grove are equal distance from my house so I just picked shady for small class sizes and free parking lol

Oh kirstens, I am the same! Right now, the two nursing schools I'm going for are equal distances from my home, but Shady Grove is definitely my first option because of the free parking, small class sizes, etc. I've decided recently that I'll be commuting as well, just because it seems to be the wiser choice, financially.

And that is absolutely awesome that they are finally letting it be known! Perhaps they were testing it for however many years it has been up to see if it would produce good results, and like you said, they worked it out! (Well, it worked out, haha!) Anyway, hope to see you at orientation! :D

For those who are guaranteed admission, how did you know you were? Just curious because a few people have said they were!
