Hello, all!
My name is Christina Smith! I know I started this thread a little soon, but I am sure others are just as anxious as I am about applying! I have submitted my application for the spring 2016 program I just want to post some background information about myself, and anyone who has been accepted to previous semesters can share some insight with me if the wish!
I have a 3.9 GPA. My science gpa is as follows:
A: A&P 1
A: A&P 2
B Micro (Which was taken in 5 weeks, do they view the length of the semester?!)
I have gotten As in all of my other courses, and just need algebra and chemistry (which I am taking together this fall.)
I have been a CNA for 2.5 years, and have worked as a med tech for 14 months, and have recently been employed by Carroll Hospital as a MED/SURG PCT.
I have not taken my TEAS, but have purchased a study guide and plan to STUDY STUDY STUDY!!
I was accepted into my community college's ADN program, but I want to step outside my comfort zone and head towards my dream school. I am so nervous!!!!!!!!!
I found out I got waitlisted last semester four days after the first person posted that they got accepted. People were still finding out they got accepted after I found out. And then I got the email and the letter maybe a week after my status changed online. I gave up trying to find a pattern in the whole thing don't lose hope though! So far no one has posted about being waitlisted or rejected, that's what I'm holding on to!
@kayrock my online application was updated the same time as the acceptance was, and then I got a letter much later in November telling me I was wait listed and how the rest of the process works. I've been wait listed twice and I seriously give up going to UMSON after this lol. Enough is enough
@Amandaniziolek, I will say that I believe I had pretty impressive stats. I have a 3.93, and am currently taking Chemistry, and 2 electives. I scored an 87% on the TEAS (I scored in the 98th percentile). I have been a Certified Nursing Assistant for almost three years, and have worked at a nursing home, with intellectually disabled adults, and now at Carroll Hospital as a Patient Care Tech on a medsurg unit. My letters of recommendation were incredible. My professors sent me a copy of them and I was in awe at how much they wrote. They were so personable and they both were one page- front and back. Also, my essays were pretty good. My father has kidney disease and I wrote about my experience at University of Maryland Medical Center when my father was hospitalized for two months post-transplant. I wrote about how the nurses inspired me and started a curiosity in me that never died.
But, I know UMSON looks at EVERYTHING. There is no "perfect" package. That is why it takes so long to send out acceptances - because they look at the ENTIRE package!
I was wailisted last year and people were still receiving acceptances after I was told. There really is no order and as far as stats they look at the packet as a whole. My overall GPA is 3.8 and science GPA is a 4.0. My TEAS score is low compared to everyone else it was a 73. I took it once last semester and wasn't able to take it again because I was on orders with the military. With all this being said there is no perfect formula and there is no order so keep HOPE ALIVE!!!! :)
I'm not sure what my GPA is with my classes, probably close to a 3.5, but I got a 93 on my TEAS. I got my CNA license so that I could work in a hospital and gain experience since the last time I got wait listed. I got the director of education at the hospital I work for to write me a recommendation letter. Add that to the fact that my application has been cancelled once and then I've been wait listed twice after that for a total of 3 semesters I've been trying to get in. I feel very discouraged because ideally after all of that they would immediately accept me lolol but such is life. I am very very happy for the opportunity you accepted people have :)
@cmblanc Oh goodness! Your stats are great. I am hoping this is your semester!!!! I have a question, though. Did you speak to admissions about where your letters of recommendation came from? I know that I spoke with them, and was told that the letters of recommendation must come from recent professors. But, I am no expert! The factor that you had a letter from the director of education may surface for it is an academic source. Do you think that could be a problem? I am not trying to discourage you AT ALL, but I am shocked that with all of the impressive work you have done, why you wouldn't be accepted?? BUT, that is not to say you have not been accepted this time!!!! I have a good feeling for you! You have done amazing things, and to me, your persistence and dedication show a promising future as a nurse!!
