UMSON Fall 2015

U.S.A. Maryland

Published

REMINDER!!! The deadline to submit your Fall application is nearing. As of now, the deadline has not changed from February 2 (short of 4 weeks away).

This is my second time applying--I was wait listed for the Spring term. Currently, I am studying to take my TEAS exam again on January 27th. This exam was the only portion of my application I was not confident in. I scored a 70% without refreshing my memory on key concepts by studying before hand. I did find the test to be a "you either no it or you don't" kind of thing so from personal experience--STUDY!

I have no outstanding prerequisites and my sciences are as follows:

AP1. -- B

AP2. -- A

CHEM -- B

MICRO -- A

I had the privilege of chatting with the last group of students and found this forum to be quite helpful! Please use this post as a way of communicating, sharing experiences, and giving advice. Hopefully, we will be classmates in the Fall!:)

Psychedrn3,

If you do not mind me asking, when did you apply? Approximately how long does it take to graduate (assuming you pass all classes the first time)? What happens if you fail a class? I've tried calculating myself but since you have experienced these things, I figured I'd ask you.

I applied for the fall 2010 semester. It took me two years to graduate. Well actually I think they changed the curriculum, so I can't speak on the current one. But when I there if you fail a core class you had to repeat that class next semester because usually it was a prereq for the next core class(es).

Hello Everyone! So glad I found this thread. I am applying for the 3rd time. I wanted to re-take my TEAS but the only places that offer it are for their college's program only. The place I usually take it is not on there this time around, so I guess I will have to stick with what I have.

I am volunteering at Anne Arundel Med. center this semester. I don't exactly know what I will be doing but I should find that out today!

katiep_123 I remember seeing your screen name when I applied in Fall 2014! I'm glad to see that you are still persevering and I hope this round will work out for you! We are not in the same cohort since I'm going the CNL route, but I'm applying to 5 other schools in MD, Georgetown, and SLU. Are you applying to other schools?

Hi guys! I was also wait listed for Spring 2015 and am now looking to apply for the fall term. I also wanted to take the TEAS again (80%) to get a better score but like you said Kaitep_123, I think I am a little late to look into that now. Best of luck to all of you in your application!

KatieP_123 and Betibee3,

It is not to late to retake your TEAS. It is actually offered up until February 2 at most PSI locations. I will forewarn, this is the most expensive route. This is my last time paying $115 for this exam! :banghead:

Why? Because I'm going to blow it out of the water (didn't prepare last time around or study) AND IM GOING TO BE A NURSE !!! :nurse:í ½í¸„

Thanks! I was going through the ATI website but I've never gone through the PSI website before. PinkEagle, it's nice to see you again on this forum!

But my gosh, that is so expensive! I have a 75% now, which is okay. Of course I'd like to do better, but that's a lot to pay for a test!

It is and I cannot believe I assumed I would do exceptionally well without studying. I barely passed (70%). I've been studying 4-6hours a day for almost a month now. I suppose this is how it is as a nursing student

Hi all!

UMSON has been my first choice since June of last year and I can't believe application time is already here. I am nervous! I have applied to Salisbury and Towson, and am working on UMD and Coppin. I thought about Hopkins but couldn't deal with that tuition! I went there for my first bachelor's 3 yrs ago and would have loved to continue, but I am not willing to pay the price. I know they give packages but the state school tuitions are much easier to deal with. As long as I get RN behind my name, right? :)

I am applying to the Baltimore location for UMSON. I want to make sure my essays are terrific so I wanna make sure the 200 words count!

I'm a bit worried about the competitiveness, though. Is science GPA just the A&P, chem, and Micro? Or does it include ALL science courses you've ever taken? Does it include nutrition or development? I did well in the nursing classes but I have a couple of doozies from other Hopkins science courses (think physics, organic chemistry, etc..ugh lol).

My TEAS was pretty good--92.7% overall so hopefully that helps. I have been working full time in case management alongside other nurses for over a year (being around them has helped me pursue nursing!) and prior to that I was an Americorps worker. I don't have volunteer stuff post graduation bc my jobs took up a lot of time (Americorps is no joke) but in college I did tons of internships in public health :)

Wishing the best for everyone!!

The science GPA includes A&P I and II, chemistry and microbiology

Hello aspiringnursedd,

i can can just feel the excitement in your text. Although your total GPA is taken into consideration, only AP1,AP2,CHEM,&Micro is considered for the science portion of your GPA.

I'm curious. Are you applying for the CNL program considering you have obtained a degree already?

Thanks for the info!

Nah, just the BSN. I thought about the CNL but as I looked more into it, I realized it did not fit into my professional goals for the future. If I could have applied for both programs, though, I probably would have. But since I had to pick, I chose the BSN. Money was a factor too although I am sure there are funds for CNLs (at least I hope)!
