UMSON Fall 2014

Published

Deadline is set - February 3, 2014

Who is applying?

I applied for the Fall 2014. I am hoping to hear good news from them! They received everything that I sent them but they still haven't posted whether or not they received my recommendation letters! Hoping for the best!:)

I'm graduating from UMSON this May, but I hope everyone that applied gets accepted! I know that Fall 2014 students will be the first group of students to complete the new curriculum. Best wishes to everyone!!

Have you heard back from AACC ? I never heard back after I applied last August. If I don't get into UMSON Im also planning to use AACC as my backup.. hopefully they didn't lose my application

I'm applying for the Fall 2014 year also! I am super nervous, right now I am attending Salisbury University and I am a prenursing major. I applied to Salisbury, UMD and Towson. University of Maryland is my first choice. Right now I have a 3.8 GPA and a 4.0 Science GPA but I didn't do very well on the TEAS, mostly because I didn't study for it at all. I got an overall score of 82.7% and an overall science score of 79.2%. I am just not very good at taking huge tests like that. I hope it doesn't ruin my chances at getting accepted.

erikall67- I am exactly in the same situation. My GPA and the TEAS score are very very similar to yours. I also hope my TEAS score won't ruin my chance of getting accepted. Did you apply for Baltimore or Shady grove campus?

My application is complete too. It will be hard to wait 2 months now to hear back!

b33ni, do you know anything about the new curriculum? I saw the sample plan of classes but I'm wondering how different it is from the current curriculum.

Thanks!

Hi all, I saw some of your posts and since I'm applying to SU's ABSN program, UMB's CNL program, and TU's second bachelors (fall 2014) I thought I'd say hi :)

I'm really curious about how everyone is planning to finance school - particularly those of you who are doing the CNL program. Has anyone had direct stafford loans? I apparently qualify for them but am curious what y'all have to say about them.

My UMB CNL app is 'complete ready for review'.

I felt pretty good about my essay and my references, but in addition:

I have A's in: stats, intro bio1/2 pathophysiology, a/p 1, organic chem and biochem, micro, and most likely in nutrition

I have B's in general chem

And I have a C in A/P 2.

And I'm planning to CLEP out of human growth and development later this spring.

my TEAS V score was 90, I think? I took it last fall and I submitted the results to UMB (I know it's not required for the CNL program but I figured it might be viewed favorably).

Umb is my top choice for several reasons, but I am concerned about quitting my job to go back to school... So how are you guys financing this?

Good luck to all of us!

amijm-I applied to the Baltimore campus because its only about a half an hour away from where I live. How about you?

Hey queserasera, I was wondering, and maybe you've already answered this, (or maybe it's too personal) if you would mind sharing the stats that you applied with when you got wait listed? I'm just curious about how steep the competition was/is. Also, has anything changed since you last applied that you think will make it more likely you'll get in?

Hi BusyBee91,

I was actually waitlisted as well last time I applied, and I am apply again this time, after having been declined acceptance. Obviously, I am hoping just like everyone to get in for Fall, but just to let you know, I did have the chance to talk directly to one of the admissions office ladies a little after I found I had gotten rejected. Basically, she said that I needed to make sure I was fully presenting myself in a way so that admissions could have a very good idea of what kind of person I was, what journey I had been on in that led me to want to pursue nursing, etc. So in my case, I do have kind of a non-traditional record in that I am applying as a post-bac, and she recommended that I use the extra space allotted in the essay portion, to explain my college journey so to speak. I think it is important that we present why we are really pursuing nursing, and that we show them that we are ready to handle the rigorous curriculum of nursing school. I personally also focused my essay on my brief experience as a CNA, which I had not actually included the first time I applied, so hopefully they can see that I have done something to 'improve' from the last time. Obviously, I have not gotten accepted this time yet, so I don't know that this advice really means anything, but I did find her advice to be somewhat helpful in applying for the second time around.

Having already been through this dreadfully long waiting process last year, I can't help but feel that this time is almost worse because I am applying for the second time, but I am trying to keep positive. Well, best wishes BusyBee91, and all of us who are waiting to hear word!!

I just got an email from someone from the office saying that I didn't explain my intent to complete the two outstanding humanities courses and that I need to send my Winter 2014 transcript within 48 hours. When I read this email I almost had a heart attack because I thought I had done the application wrong, but I fixed the problem and sent them my new transcript along with my intent to attend summer classes. I guess the good news is that they have started looking at applications!

Hey queserasera :) thanks for all your insight!! I've been waiting somewhat patiently for my status to change from committe ready... Do you remember about how long you waited to hear something?
