UMSON BSN FALL 2020

Updated:   Published

Hey Guys,

Just wondering if there are any students that applied to University of Maryland School of Nursing for the BSN program for Fall 2020. I see a thread for Spring 2020, but not one for Fall as of yet. If so, do you mind posting your grades/TEAS scores. Mine are listed below.

3.85 overall GPA

3.9 science GPA

TEAS: still waiting on my results (took it today)

Hope to hear from you all. Thanks,

Jay

I didn’t.

I had classmates that worked first semester and end up either dropping hours or quitting during their second semester, which is very demanding.

Hi, I’m in AllBetsOff cohort. Can confirm. I worked 16 hour/week during 1st semester but since 2nd semester is way more material heavy, I went down to work once a month just so I could focus on school and get the grades I want. Seemed like a better investment for me as I have a long history of work experience. There are still people in our cohort who worked weekly part time schedules. Just know yourself and what you want and be okay with what you choose for yourself. Congratulations to those who got in Fall 2020. Sure is a weird time to be doing nursing but we got this!

HI. I have to work full-time with Johns Hopkin because I owe them a year of service after tuition assistance. I only registered 6 credit class this nur410 and Patho-physiology. what do you think about this classes and how heavy do you think it will be.?

I can't really speak for the Baltimore campus, I think our curriculums are slightly different.

From my experience at the Shady Grove campus (which like I mentioned above I think has a different curriculum), pathophys shouldn't be too heavy especially taken with one other course.

No comment on 410 bc I am taking that in the Fall.

If you have a good grasp on A&P the Patho classes are not that hard. It might at times seem time consuming. I haven’t taken 410 but 310 was pretty straight forward if you read the material. I will say, get on Evolve, create a free student account and download the free resource for “Understanding Pathophysiology 6th Edition,” “Lehne’s Pharmacology for Nursing Care 10th Edition,” “Medical Surgical Nursing 10th Edition” because they have plenty of practice questions if you want a preview of what’s to come.

What are the uniform requirements for clinicals? I found a sale on white work shoes/sneakers in my size and was debating getting them but unsure if there is a color requirement or other requirement.

Has anyone else heard back from the waitlist yet?

School scrub top and bottom and white tennis shoes. They are not very picky.

hey guys,

currently in the process of applying. What do you guys think I should do? I dont have the best GPA, and I'm scheduled to take my TEAS on June 24th. My overall GPA is 3.02 and science GPA is 2.75. I dont know if I should apply for umson in baltimore or USG which is their nursing program in rockville. I plan to study very hard for the TEAS to compensate for the bad grades. But I want your opinion whether its worth it for me to apply. Im torn in between. Nursing is too competitive. I know umson has more seats in baltimore than usg. I was also applying to the MC nursing program which is super competitive as well and requires 1 year at usg for bachelors. please help!! ya girl struggling!

Hi did anyone receive their financial aid award yet and also is anyone in group F for classes?

@gromer Hi, current UMSON student. You are right, it is competitive. If you haven't yet, schedule an appointment with the admissions counselor. I think they're very honest and will help guide you best.

For example, I had a weak overall GPA (it was about 2.8 or 2.9) but my science was good (around 3.75-3.8). I was told by admissions that my overall GPA was not competitive. They suggested that I score high on TEAS to help me. So I studied very hard and got 99th percentile for TEAS. Additionally, I have years of relevant experience which also worked in my favor.

TBH, I think improving your science GPA would ultimately be to your advantage just cause nursing school is science heavy and builds on all the sciences on a more critical thinking level especially A&P.

Best Wishes.

This thread has been pretty quiet... does anyone know if there is a FB group for the incoming class? How is everyone feeling about everything? I wish we had more information on what classes will look like this semester.

I know there is a facebook group for the Shady Grove cohort (https://www.facebook.com/groups/UMSONSG2022) , but I don't know about the Baltimore group. I know for Shady Grove we are going to be online except for labs and simulations, I'm curious if Baltimore will be doing the same. I'm excited to get started, though a bit bummed about not having in person clinicals this semester.
