I told you you'd get in, Friendly!!!! I'm so happy for you!!!!!:clpty:
Haha, you were right! I should have believed everyone on here instead of wasting all that time stressing out about it! Now, I'm just super nervous about how I'll do with everything! I can't believe I start so soon! Where were your clinicals held during the first semester? And thanks so much for the congrats!

:yelclap:Congrats to you!!!! I won't be joining you at UMSL but will be starting BJC in the Spring. Let us know how your first semester goes. I'd be glad to know.
Thanks! Let me know how your program goes as well once it starts up next year! :)
You're welcome! First semester clinicals are at sub-acute facilities. I went to Barnes-Jewish Extended Care in Clayton (not the greatest place but it's definitely where you want to be to learn all those basic nursing skills). Other students went to Christian Hospital, also on a sub-acute floor. You won't go to clinical right away either.....you'll test out on a bunch of skills in the lab and pass dosage calculation before you are sent out there. We didn't go for 8 weeks, but I'm sure yours will be much faster!
You'll do fine. Work hard, study your tail off, and stay on top of deadlines (especially with lab quizzes and return demos). Instructors will notice, and you'll pass with flying colors!

Thanks so much for the advice...it is needed! :) One more question, (sorry for all the questions, I'm just curious!) are we allowed to pick where we go for clinical sites? It would be nice to be at BJ extended care in clayton, because I live in west county! I'll be driving out to UMSL everyday! I'd love to stay closer to home with clinicals, at least...like St. Luke's, St. John's, Mo Baptist, or Des Peres...something close, but I know it won't always be so close! Anyways, thanks for your responses as they have helped me so much! Have a great night!

I applied for the Fall 08 clinicals and my advisor (Susan) called me on Friday and said the letters will be going out this week for acceptance. I'm really nervous and hope that I got in, as I'm part of the new admissions policy where it is solely off of your GPA and I didn't have one of those "guaranteed" spots. I really wanted to do the accelerated program but I missed it by one gen ed class, A&P 2 I'm just really ready to start! Are there any others out there starting clinicals in Fall 08?
I also applied to the Traditional BSN program that starts in the Fall...but I took up their offer on the accelerated as it was too good to be true! I also have one gen-ed class left unfinished after this semester....my advisor at UMSL told me that if I wrote that in my admissions essay and stated that I was willing to put in the extra work to take that class during clinicals, that they would probably accept me! And she was right about that! It's nothing really hard...just Junior level writing...I couldn't take it this year because I'm only a sophomore. Good luck on getting into the traditional program! I bet you'll be fine. I was nervous also about getting in...now I think I was being silly. I can't wait to start! :)
Congrats on getting into the accelerated program by the way! I forgot that I still have to take that junior level writing class and that with the A&P 2 was why she didn't want me to apply because that is alot of work to squeeze into an accelerated program. Plus I would assume the board would probably like it if their nursing students had completed A&P2 :) I wish you the best of luck in the program and I know you will do just fine because you have to be quite talented in order to even get into the accelerated program :) I'm sure we'll run into each other through the chaos! Take care.
Thanks! I appreciate the kind words. I bet you'll get in!! I sure hope so at least. I know a few others who also applied to the traditional program...they're all still waiting for letters as well. When I still hadn't heard anything from UMSL, I emailed my advisor and she ended up telling me I got in before I received a letter...maybe if you do the same thing they can tell you??! That'd be nice! Anyways, I hope we do run into each other during our programs! I'm excited. I'm actually trying to get all my appointments made up because they're all due by May 5th for us. Like the physical, urine drug screen, TB test, CPR certification, background check, registration, and the mandatory orientation. Ahh it is super crazy once you're accepted...you'll be super busy with all the paperwork! :)
It depends. We had no choice for our first semester - other semesters our instructors announced the three clinical sites for the course, put three pieces of paper at the front of the classroom, said "go" and stepped aside to avoid being trampled by the mad rush of students to put their names on the lists (only about 8 students were allowed per clinical site). But remember that this was the traditional program - things may be different in the accelerated program.
I don't think anyone had clinical sites at St. Luke's or Des Peres. There were clinicals at St. John's for both MedSurg I and II and at MoBap for OB. There were also clinical groups that went to DePaul for OB and Psych. Most first-semester students go to BJ Extended for clinical anyway so you probably won't have much of a problem there.
