Hello Everyone,
I'm new to the site and looking for other students that will be applying to bilingual nursing programs in Puerto Rico. I am looking at UMET & Interamerican University. I was hoping we could help each other out throughout the application process, provide each other with tips and feedback and/or any advice on applying, relocation, nclex questions, etc..
A little about me: I live in NYC and taking my pre-requisites at a local community college. I submitted my applications to both UMET and Inter. I still need to send them my transcripts and course descriptions. so far I have gotten good responses from the directors at both schools, set up appts for campus tours next month. Will keep everyone posted.
Anyone else applying for next year??
planning to do the same.. You have to get a very specific course breakdown before you leave the Uni once you graduate... and we are all in the process of getting that done.. so there shouldn't be any problem. :)
I have a question:1) I plan to continue with my masters in nursing when i return to California. Has anyone done that on these forums? Did you have trouble transferring over your core classes like anatomy, physio, micro that you did with Inter?
Do I need to take history of PR and Spanish before I arrive for school or can I take them along with my classes? Can take the classes online before school starts?
I started my term in Feb and took the last of my GE's that I needed including spanish and Hx of PR and started the accelerated in Aug with the rest of the group. So you can try that too.
The PR police is separate from the US police info. So your CALI dui won't show up.
Don't stress.. You can get the paperwork even when you get to the island. I did that.
So it seems everyone is in the middle of finals which is why the lack of responses? I have one very urgent question:
Certificado de Antecedentes Penales - I sent my online request to the PR.gov police website, it was submitted on 5/19, I called the police department today and i was told they have up to 60,000 applicants they have to process.... On the other hand, i was told i can receive the results in the same day if i showed up in person. I had no intention to go to PR way before my class registration, but i need to ask any current/former students if you had to go to the Police Dept. yourself to obtain this because the online version will never be received in the short amount of time (even though their website says 7-14 business days).
I need this urgent because i have a prior DUI on my record and It would be a waste to start the program then be unable to attend clinicals... Please Help
....
UMET campus told me i dont have to worry, it wont show up, but INTER on the other hand is constantly transferring me to one admissions person to the next nursing staff etc...
I am also planning to be in PR around August 4, two weeks before the classes start! I am looking now for an apartment not that far away from the UMET Bayamon campus. If you have found a safe, decent temporary rooms please post your source! The cheapest rooms I could find is around $70 per night. I could not find anything like Super 8 or Motel 6 type rooms!
Cali_girl2014,
When I was at the school in May they told me about the Good Conduct Certificate. You need to bring your passport or ID from US, and also you need to have a local address in PR. They told me you can do it usually in four hours (if you don't get a warlock or a witch at the counter)!
I am looking at the Toa Baja area for renting, because Bayamon is not that great to live (per school employees).
We will catch up in PR!

I stayed at a hostel when I flew to PR to turn in my transcripts and check out the school. While there I found out that I could live there in exchange for doing chores. I'm not sure its something you would want to do, but its an option to help save money and get to know island instead of rushing into getting a place

Thanks for replying, I have heard that as well. I did email the Wisconsin BON and they did clarify that they do not consider PR international as long as the school is accredited which UMET def is. When are u moving to PR? I would like to keep in touch with you to ask questions about the process and how you like the program so far? I will be visiting PR July 12-19 and paln on visiting the school. Thanks. Will PM you my email. :)
