Umdnj,acceptance,fall 2009

Hi,

Have anyone been given an acceptance letter for the Fall 2009 Accelerated BSN program? Are letters of acceptance coming out or does someone wait and they all come together?

Would somone let me know if they were accepted yet and if they have received a orientation date?

Thanks!

Hi oldfashionedlove!

I actually applied for the summer and got in SO under the wire that I had to defer until the fall. So we'll be there together!! I drove in to give my deposit last week, and the neighborhood is a little "unsavory" (granted I'm from Monmouth County), but I met the asst. Dean on my first day to get the paperwork signed. I overheard a convo that from the summer they had 26 deposits and about 15 floating acceptances... so these classes are going to be much smaller than I thought. I guess everybody does everything together??? If that's the case, I guess we're gonna be getting pretty close. I think it's a tough schedule... like 8-5 every day or along those lines.

Hoping taking mass transit in from the east side of Newark is better than driving through the west side. Yeesh. Talk to you soon!!!

Hi! The ABSN is a cohort program, meaning you are scheduled for classes with your "group" so you do not get to choose your schedule. Classes are generally 3 full days per week. You have to be available all week for clinicals, but that does not mean you will be in class all week. It is an:specs::specs::specs: intense program, so there is lots of reading and studying. Classes tend to study in groups, socialize, etc. It is a great way to do your nursing degree because there is a lot of peer support.

Hi Everyone!

I finally got my acceptance letter for the Fall 2009 about a week and a half ago:lol2:. I've been stressing about the program and whether I'm going to be able to hold a part-time jobsad.png. I can't wait to meet everyone on Aug. 19th at orientation. Is anyone purchasing the Palm PDA before we start or are you all waiting?

Hello! I've been accepted to UMDNJ for the FALL 09 program as well. I'm looking forward to orientation. Where did you get information on what type of PDA we need to buy? I would like to start buying books, uniform, etc while I am still working and have money!! Please let me know if you hear anything. Look forward to meeting yoU!

Emmie-

I found the PDA requirements as well as 2 of the books we will be needing on the UMDNJ website (on the SN website on the left sidebar of the screen it says Student Resources- just click that then New Students) and by looking at the UMDNJ bookstore online. I just purchased a Palm TX off of Ebay that is loaded with over a hundred medical programs already. I think I'm going to wait until orientation to get the books since we'll be in the vicinity of the actual UMDNJ bookstore and I was advised that we will be assigned our schedule with all of our classes and professors then. Hope to meet you soon and let me know if you need anything else since I've been obsessing about all the things we're going to need to do and get. :banghead:

That's a really great idea to get one off Ebay! i am going to start looking. We probably have to buy the specific software they want us to use too. I think I am going to wait until orientation to buy the books as well. Do you live near campus? I live in hoboken right now, but since I wont be working I'm contemplating moving back to north jersey where my parents live. I'm excited to start, but also a little nervous... its been a few years since i was in school full time! I'll definitely let you know if i have any more questions!

Hey Emmie-

According to the SN website they are supposed to be switchng to free software for the PDA as of the Fall 09 semester.. but we'll see. I just got one with extra software in hopes that it will help me down ther road. I actually just got back from a drive to Newark to see the campus and bookstore. I was a little nervous walking around (got shouted at 2 times.. yikes:(). The bookstore was the size of my living room and had like 2 of each book. I'm still unsure as to where we are suppsoed to be going on orientation day but i'll figure it out. I also wanted to get my ID done, but I got lost and I'm just gunna wait until orientation. I live in Woodbridge so I'm about 20-30 mins from campus. Talk to you soon

Oh that would be great if it were free... being that these PDA's are going to cost a couple hundred. I saw one on ebay too... so hopefully I'll get that one so i dont have to buy it new. I've only been to the campus once (for info night in march) and it definitely was a little sketchy at night driving around there. Oh well... hopefully we'll get parking close the building!Do you know how many people are in our class? Keep me posted if you hear anything new!

Yea the PDA's are expensive.. I actually bought mine new with the programs for $300.. not too bad. I never went to campus until today, so I had no idea what I was getting into. It's only 15 months, so I can deal. Oh, and I have no idea about our class size, I'm just hoping it's smaller (like 50 or so).

This is for NURSE4SURE-I was reading your post and was a bit offended by you saying that 'Stratford' was unsavory! Please watch your comments, due to others reading your post. I'm not sure which way you came (maybe the White Horse Pike), but I live here and it is a nice town. If it's unsavory, then stay in Monmouth please! Thanks:)

Hello everyone - I need some advice, UMDNJ is my first choice for the ABSN program. I have to take the following pre-reqs: A&P 1 and 2 (w/ lab), Microbio (w/ lab), Chem (w/ lab), and Psych. I really want to apply to Summer 2010 semester. Would it be too much to take all these courses in one semester? I am afraid if I split the pre-reqs into Fall 2009 and Spring 2010, the end of the Spring 2010 will overlap with the beginning of Summer 2010 nursing program at UMDNJ, and I would have to wait until Fall 2010. Is there a way around this?

I already have my BS in Bio, and I am finishing my MBA. So I am eager to get started since I have the time right now. I'd appreciate any advice/suggestions. Thank you!

Hey Jazzy-

WoW! That would be a lot to take all at once. I recently took A&P 1 & 2 and Microbiology all at once in order to get into the program for the Fall 2009. That wasn't too bad, but it really depends on whether you can handle that all at once. Four labs in one semester is going to be rough. I hated Chem so that would be hard for me. You're also right about the Spring 2010 overlapping their Summer 2010, I know my school did thats why I just started for the Fall. Also, don't forget you have to get a B or better in all of those classes to really be considered. This is something you really need to answer for yourself considering you know your capabilities better than any of us. Good Luck with it all i'm sure you'll figure it all out and do great.

Melissa

Does anyone know of anyone who got accepted to UMDNJ with less than a 3.0 GPA? I have a 2.98 & 4.0 in my prereqs but doesn't seem like I have a shot. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
