  1. If you really trust this co-worker not to say anything then you should use her, especially if she's a senior nurse. I was in the same predicament a few months ago. I used a senior nurse that I could trust to give me a reference and it all worked out. She never said anything to anyone and I was hired at the other hospital. But def don't say anything to your boss until you're giving formal notice. Good luck!
  2. Just passed NCLEX and recieved license and was offered $32/hr in NJ....overnight shift
  3. I'm taking the NCLEX in a few days & wondering if anyone would be kind enough to help me out w/Kaplan Q bank? I did NCLEX 4000 and Saunders and have been doing okay. Any help will be appreciated. My email address is [email protected]. Thanks in advance :)
  4. I know this is a bold question but, I'm taking the NCLEX in 5 days and wondering if anyone would be kind enough to share their Kaplan Q bank access w/me? I've been doing NCLEX 4000 and have been scoring bet 70% to 85% and just wanted to see how I'll do w/the Kaplan Qs since I'm not familiar with these question type. Should anyone choose to share my email is [email protected]. I will greatly appreciate it!! Thanks in advance :)
  5. jessicanursing101, it is a very good sign it's taking them this long to respond. I received my rejection letter w/in a week of me submitting my application. Good Luck!
  6. I agree with Wisconsin Student regarding your GPA. Most of the BSN programs particularly the accelerated ones won't even consider applicants with less than a 3.0 GPA, which I think is kinda sad . However though I prefer the BSN route better for us that already hold a bachelor's the ADN is not that because the transition to the BSN is pretty easy & depending on your time & schedule can take as little a 1 year. Wish you all the best!
  7. It shouldn't take you 2-3 years to finish prerequisites, unless you plan on taking 1 class per semester. I was in somewhat of a similar situation as yourself a year ago. I started this whole process in May '09, in which I had to research schools & programs, meet with advisors, attended many open houses, and took a total of 7 prerequisites, A&P I&II, microbiology, gen chemistry, and a few others, and was done in January 2010 and waiting to start school in May. My previous degree is in Political Science so I had no prior experience with science subjects. I'm starting my ABSN in a week, exactly 1 year from the date I started the process. Depending on your time & flexibility you can complete the preparation process in less than a year. Do your research & figure out the schools you're interested in then take it from there. Just wanted you to get an idea of the process from another perspective. Though its not a walk in the park its not as difficult and drawn out as many portray it to be. Good Luck!
  8. ***, the AANA could have easily been the governing organization mentioned, I just couldn't recall the name as I stated. Thanks for the clarification.

  10. Thanks for the book suggestion, I will definitely add it to my list of to reads. Well, I guess the "closing the CRNA schools" argument is still being used, in my opinion, merely as deterrent for those considering the field. They said so many negatives in trying to dissuade me from pursuing a CRNA career I can hardly remember much of it. What's more interesting is that these physicians reside & practice in NYC where I'm sure there's more than enough employment for both CRNAs and Anesthesiologists!
  11. I was vacationing in the tropics a few weeks ago and met three handsome Anesthesiologists while sun bathing at the pool. We all chatted a little until the topic of our professions came up. I told them I was starting nursing school (ABSN Program) in a few weeks & how excited I was. I then proceeded further by saying I also hope to pursue a graduate degree as a CRNA or NP (note at this point I had no idea these guys were anesthesiologists). Why did I mentioned becoming a CRNA, b/c the stares I got from all three were nothing but pure EVIL STARES! By their looks I knew I said something wrong but had no idea what it was until they told me they were Anesthesiologists & fear that CRNAs were taking away their jobs at a cheaper price, and with the new health care laws just passed its going to get worst for them. This was totally unexpected 'cause all I planned to do that day was to relax by the poolside & sip pina coladas all day! However, they went on trying to convince me of all the reasons as to why I should not pursue a CRNA career & that eventually the national anesthesia board (not sure if this was the organization they mentioned) was no longer going to certify CRNA training and eventually they'll be no more training because there is no longer a shortage of Anesthesiologists. The shocker of this whole conversation was two of the anesthesiologists mentioned, with conviction, they wish they had pursue a CRNA career instead where they would have accumulated less debt with almost the same income or they wish they had chosen another specialty. I was pretty shocked hearing these remarks & would love to hear your opinions :)
  12. I'm also in the same situation and there's definitely no federal grants for a 2nd bachelor. However, there's federal loans but for a very limited amount per semester based on what's left of the maximum allowed $57K used for the first bachelor. Also, how does one get a private loan if most of the ABSN programs require you not to work & lenders won't approve you without being employed? Without scholarships and a phat savings account or a parent or spouse to cosign for a loan it seem almost impossible for most students .
  13. Thanks guys!! I'm checking out these websites and prices seem to be much lower than the previous ones I've looked at...thanks again :)
