  1. Sorry for the confusion; in Texas and I believe California we are called LVN; other states its called LPN.
  2. Just wanted to add that Covenant Hospital in Lubbock, TX has told me they will give me half of my 25 plus years as an LVN to my years of experience as a RN when I get out of school. I know its hard to relocate but see if any of the hospitals here will help pay relocating expenses. Many hospitals in Texas have been forced to use staffing nurses and will take steps to get their own staffing nurses. Cheaper for them than the staffing agency's. Good luck to all in this economy.
  3. Come to Texas; most hospitals in any major city or town are not only hiring RN's but are giving rather sizable bonus's up to 10,000 to go to work for them. I now live in Abilene, TX and both hospitals here, Hendrick's and Abilene Regional have openings. I did staffing nursing in Lubbock, TX as a LVN (been one since 1984). I made 22-29 an hr there as an LVN. Plenty of nursing jobs there too as well as Austin, Dallas/Ft. Worth, etc. I feel your pain, I started back to school in 2004 working on pre-requisites to get my BSN; diagnosed with cancer in 2008 so switched my major to social work as I was not physically able to do clinical's while on chemo/radiation. Graduating in May 2010 with my BSW and find practically no one hires social workers without a master's and then they pay less than I made as LVN. Now, I'm 50,000 in debt and I have been accepted into a 2nd degree BSN accelerated program but am having trouble finding funding for it. In Texas, nursing is one of the only safe professions. Most new RN's are paid a base salary of 25 or more an hour plus differential. Staffing pays the most in Texas. Good luck!
  4. Thank you for the great advice. I am really excited. I am glad to hear someone was successful as I have heard its a really intense year. I was in a RN program in 2008 but I got cancer, switched my major to Social Work as I couldn't keep up with the clinical's while I was on chemo/radiation. I also meant to do the accelerated program as I love nursing. Now I find out I don't qualify for grants/loans because its a second degree. However, I figure where there's a will there's a way. Thank you again.
  5. I am about to begin a 2nd bachelor's degree accelerated nursing program in May 2010. I just about maxed out on my first degree as I went to a private university. I will be going to Angelo State University in San Angelo,TX but I am having to relocate and they say you cannot work as it is so intense. I am having difficulty securing aid. I am also 51 years old single, and have 3 children. Anyone have any suggestions, tips, or something they tried? Who is the most lenient lender, grants etc.?? Any info is appreciated. Thank you
