UMB Spring 2012

Published

Hello! I am in the process of applying for the spring 2012 semester at the Baltimore campus!! I didn't see any threads out there yet for people who are applying so I figured I'd start one :) Feel free to share gpa, TEAS scores, etc and any updates on admission!! GOOD luck to everyone!

I'll be commuting as well. We live about 30 minutes from Baltimore. I'd love to share a place in the city, but I don't think my husband and 2 daughters would go for it!!!:p

AprilAnney- Thanks for emailing your friend ! let us know when you find out !!

So for those people who got into Towson and UMSON, which school do you think you are going to pick? Towson is closer to me and not in the heart of the city, so I like that. However, Maryland has a program that has been around since 1889 and they are ranked 11 nationally as far as nursing schools go. Towson is even ranked. I am leaning toward UMSON but which school do you think is better academically and post-graduation wise?

I am in-state (about 40 minutes away) but I plan on moving to the city. I know there are two apartment complexes you can live in through the university. My friend lived in one last year and they are really nice, but hers was a little pricey.

I'm looking into renting a townhouse since it's cheaper. I am probably going to get a 4-bedroom with two current nursing students, so if anyone is planning on moving to Baltimore and is interested in a townhouse, let me know!

I may totally be interested in that option- I am definitely for a cheaper option and being from New Jersey I don't think there is any possibility of commuting :p Keep me posted as you figure out your situation more!

My friend is commuting right now to UMB and she pays $5/day for parking, just for those who were wondering

This is such a tough decision. You would think it would be an easier decision because Maryland is more reputable than Towson, there are a couple external factors that impact decision making.

As for Towson, I started out here, so I've had the chance to make friends, get adjusted to it, and get aquainted with people who are either in or have finished nursing here. To top that off, like you said, it's not in the city, so the traffic won't be nearly as bad, and I think the hospitals we would be going to for clinicals would be a bit closer.

On the other hand, though, my sister is at UM for pharmacy, and she knows people who went to UMSON. The hospitals one of the girls listed for me seemed to be pretty far, but I'm just as new to this whole thing, so I have no idea if they'll send us out that far if they'll choose to send us to hospitals that are closer to us.

I actually feel more stressed choosing a school, than I did waiting for an answer.

I guess to summarize, if you're looking at the school itself, I would say go with UMSON, but if external factors are weighted pretty heavily to you, than Towson could be a better fit. I know this doesn't really give an answer as to which school I'm picking becuase to be honest, I have no idea at this point. This is just some info. I wanted to share. Maybe it would help others in making their decisions?

Also, sorry this is so long! :/

Lag1231, got your message but I can't send message back because I don't have enough posts I believe? anyway if you message me again with an e-mail address I can e-mail you.

So a quick question. I got the call saying that I am in. I am taking a class at CCBC this semester...organic and bio chemistry, which is not required at Maryland. They said I needed to have my final transcript in before orientation. I just looked online and saw it says Provisional Admit...is this because they need to make sure I have stopped my enrollment at CCBC? Since the class is not required, does the grade I get matter? I should get a B, but still just wondering if my grade in a class not required matters or if they just want the transcript.

Still try to finish those remaining classes with a B or higher. You don't want them thinking you were slacking this semester and lower grades still affect your GPA. Don't want to lose that provisional admission...

that's funny. i applied to the informatics program too. :)

Does anyone know what we do next? should I take the CPR course now or what? I like to be prepared so please let me know

I'd go ahead and take the CPR class. You're going to need it, so might as well get it done with. That's what I did because I wasn't sure if there was going to be a bunch of other stuff I needed to do before I start the program, and I didn't want to stress myself out trying to complete everything over the one month we have before starting the program.
