  1. I took my certificate program to gain a better understanding of the field and make sure that this is what I wanted to get into. If you have already have decent knowledge in informatics and HIT, then I would just go straight for the MSN. The certificate program does not give you much hands-on experience, as you have probably seen.
  2. I remember being a new grad on a neuro floor. It was very stressful b/c your working with all sorts of patients. I felt that working on a neuro floor actually is very helpful with working on any other floor. I think the stress comes from the overwhelming about information you have to learn. But with other staff and leadership support, things should start coming together.
  3. I would have to agree with the others here. $10/hr is LESS than what I was making as a CNA. NYC should at least be one of the highest paying area next to Cali. What are the hours like??
  4. In my opinion & looking at your goals and life, I would probably recommend getting your associates first. Then while your working, you can get you BSN (which is usually an additional 12 credits). An associates will get you in the door quicker. Yes, employers prefer BSN-prepared nurses, however there are many that will HELP you get that BSN. Hope this helps :)
  5. Sorry Touba! Dont give up!!
  6. When talking to admissions last year, they said they accepted about 30% of the people who applied to our particular program. The admission director said they wanted to keep the class small. There were exactly 30 people in this cohort (with a 2 drop-outs). So I'm guessing they received a little over 100 applicants. The percentage of students who received federal funding was small; they had only enough for 5 people to receive federal funding from our program, from what the app said. And it still did not cover everything. You can also look into other funding such tuition reimbursement (if your job has it), scholarships, etc. And thanks on the congrats!!!
  7. Hopefully around the 15th like everyone else on this thread! I dont already work in the informatics field but I recently accepted a job related to it! I've been involved in informatics committees and projects and just completed one of the HITECH programs for applied informatics. I'm extremely excited and nervous to be leaving the bedside but I know this is the area that I'm passionate for :redbeathe.
  8. Hope you get in too!!! We just may be classmates
  9. Still try to finish those remaining classes with a B or higher. You don't want them thinking you were slacking this semester and lower grades still affect your GPA. Don't want to lose that provisional admission...
  10. I havent either. I'm doing coursework only right now. I applied for the NI program. *crosses fingers*
  11. Another thing to do (which really helped me) is write out the possible questions they may ask you. Then either bullet or write out complete sentences on what points you would cover. Go through as many questions as you can, especially if you can predict which ones the panel will ask, based on the job position & description. I found that rehearsing allows you to be prepared for whatever question they give you...since it will be similar enough to someone of your reheorificed questions.
  12. Hi!! I was apart of the first cohort to finish this program back in May. My cohort was composed of 50% clinical background (mainly nurses) & 50% technical (i.e. programmers, system analyst, etc). It was a great program to get a better insight into the informatics field. I wished some of the aspects of the practicum were planned better...but it was their first time of implementing the program so it should improve with the feedback we gave them. I applied for a position back in June as a Clinical Nurse Informatics Analyst. I didn't get that job due to lack of informatics experience, as they told me. They were, however, impressed with my clinical skills and my experience and knowledge gained during the AHI program. I recently took the job of application coordinator in my organization to work with the clinical documentation module. It especially helps that I have a clinical background. I'm pretty excited about this new path in my career!:)
  13. Hi, I know you were certified a year ago, but can you talk about your experience with the projects to complete to finish your certification? I've only heard you need to complete projects related to the module...but I'm curious on what was completed. Have you gone back for additional certifications since last year?
  14. I would completely agree with BobcatRN. I'm also taking a position as an Application Coordinator for an EPIC implementation & getting certified. It's a great opportunity to get involved in implementation and further your skills in the field of informatics.
