UMB Spring 2010 Applicants (BSN or CNL)

Published

After following the Fall '09 thread with great interest, I thought it might be time to start a new thread for the Spring '10 applicants since we're inching closer to the Sep 1 deadline. I have a technical question for those who have applied before. I submitted my CNL application online this morning and paid the $50 and now it seems like my application has slipped into a vortex that I don't have access to. When I log onto SURFS to check my status, the only option that it gives me is to submit a new application. Is there somewhere else on the website that I should be looking to confirm that my application has been submitted and is pending review or awaiting additional information (transcripts, recommendations, etc)? Perhaps there is a delay between when the application is submitted and when the status is visible?

Best of luck to all the other applicants...now the agonizing waiting game begins! Looking forward to giving each other support and encouragement on this thread.

Good morning to you all,

I have a quick question for all of those wwho have applied and received entrance into the CNL program.

I am presently a NY senior who will graduate in 2011. I am really interested in entering the CNL program rather than going to an acclerated BSN program. I do plan on eventually becoming an Neonatal NP and I would like the idea of just having to go an enter a post-master program than starting from scratch (especially since in 2014 NP will no longer be masters programs but doctorate track programs unless you can get grandfathered in).

Anyways......

I am presently retaking AP I and APII this acadmeic year. I got a B and C originally. Right now I am most likely going to get a A/A- for API. My grades are as follows:

Micro- B+

Nutrition- B+

Chem I and II- a B- and a C ( I plan on taking over one chem next fall....just because those grades are on the low side)

Stats: C+ ( I worked hard for this grade to...math is not a strong point)

Human Developlemt : I have to do

My GPA at my present college this semester will be a 3.8- 4.0 ( barring any disasters at finals), At my previous university it is a 2.78...and this is due to the fact that I was battling a chronic illness the entire two years I was there.

I just wanted to know what do you guys think my chances are? I will also begin working as a HHA in January. Do you guys think I should strengthen any one grade (like take stats over again)?

Is there anything I could do (in the next 18mths) to improve my chances?

I also plan on applying to Salisbury's acclerated BSN program as well, Stevenson, and Morgan State.

Even as an an out of state student, nursing school would be cheaper in MD.

If any wants to PM me you can, I can receive and respond to PM's.

Thanks in advance and have a nice day.

Is anyone here looking for housing in Baltimore??

Im having no luck on the school ads regaurding the type of apartment i want( within walking distance, own bathroom).

so i figured i would post here. http://cf.umaryland.edu/housing_ads/ads.cfm?Type=Apartment

Theres a 2bath/2br (camden) for rent 3 blocks from umb. If anyone else is interested in rooming please let me know. I emailed the person to get more details.

ouch on cost.... if anyone is taking the metro from owings mills.... i'll see you a lot :) then next semester I'll try and move closer.... :heartbeat

yea I've been looking into housing too. It's a little stressful. I'm thinking Fayette towers if I can get in. Anyone else thinking there?

Gray Lady,

Would you recommend that we try to attend the DEC 5th open house at the Shady Grove campus if we haven't been there yet? Or should we just wait till orientation on Jan 20th? Thanks.

You are welcome to visit the Shady Grove campus any time you like. The Information Session on Saturday, Dec. 5 won't help you much - it is mostly about the application process so it might be a bit of a waste of your time. You will get a full blown tour the morning of the first day of Orientation on Jan. 20.

I just called the Help Line for Surfs and the gentlemen just told me that I wasn't in the system just yet. I sent in my acceptance letter Friday when I got my packet. He told me that it take awhile for the information to get into the computer and we should have access to Surfs at least by the time school starts.

Don't worry everyone. You can still register for your classes. If you read through the packet and pull out the paper for registation information, you have two more options. You can mail in a registration form with the classes you want to take or fill one out electronically (Grey Lady please correct me if I am wrong). I found this under Student Resources -> Student Services -> Student Forms -> Registration Forms should be there. I hope this helps. :D

The admissions packet has registration instructions. First you need to send in your acceptance and deposit, then you are put into the system, then you send in (I recommend email, not mail) your Registration form, then Registration makes the online registration in SURFS available to you (usually in 24 to 48 hours), then you go online and register

i posted this earlier on another thread, but thought the more it's viewed the more likely i would get a helpful answer. so far everything i've read has been very informative. thanks so much!

everything i've read previously has been so helpful.

i'm wondering if anyone out there was rejected from the CNL program at UMB and reapplied. if so...did you reapply to the CNL program or instead apply to the Traditional BSN program?

i'm asking because i was rejected and i want to (re)apply again for the fall, but want to increase my chances as much as possible. if anyone has any suggestions or had this happen to them i'd appreciate hearing about your experience! thanks so much.

and congratulations to all those accepted for spring :)

My status still says committee ready...what's going on here??? I called and they said they still hadn't made a decision on mine. :( that's kind of weird.

that happend to my friend last semester.... she got in after 2 weeks.... in other words they are prob. waiting for someone to decline to accept you.... that's what has happend to me for johns hopkins.... they want you but they are waiting for an opening.....

in otherwords it means they haven't told you no.... so in two weeks or less it'll prob. be a yes....

or call again and ask more specific questions....

hope that kinda helps...

yeah it does help. When I called they did say a decision wasn't made yet...but they are pretty quiet about why/when. I guess it's good...I'll just send them my semester grades next Tuesday, so that works out in a way. All I can do is keep waiting. Good luck with everything, and thanks for the input! :)

yea I've been looking into housing too. It's a little stressful. I'm thinking Fayette towers if I can get in. Anyone else thinking there?

the school housing, im going with my dad friday to see whats available in the area. i was looking into fayette towers at first but it was so expensive, even when split. im looking within 5 blocks of the school. ah this was harder than i thought.

Thanks Lunaaeddon for answering my inquiry. I was considering Fayette too but it is very expensive so I'll have to see.

Does anyone know if we are to start clinicals already in the first semester? I was wondering if a car would be needed in Baltimore for clinical rotations or even if it is advisable to have a car in Baltimore?

Thanks for any input.

To Grey Lady or anyone else who knows any good info:

Since I know the admissions office and registration office are pretty busy (as are you too), but here are my questions:

1. Will we get an email or letter saying to register for 320 and not 405 for the BSN students?

2. How long does it take to get to register online if all our 'stuff' (confirmation letter & money) was recieved Monday this week- yes I know that sounds pushy- but I'm just asking :)

3. If we have FAFSA at our current community college and added UMB to our schools last week- do we need to do anything else?

4. Are we going to get another packet on scholarships/loans/FAFSA in the coming weeks before school starts?

5. Also, is UMB for the Baltimore campus a huge commuter school? I'll be commuting the first semester and then I'll try to move down there, but would it be in my best interest to scramble and try and get a room/apartment down there the first semester?

Thank you for all your help and I hope you had an awesome Thanksgiving
