UMass Boston - ABSN Spring 2021

Published

I did not see a thread for this cohort, so everyone interested in this absn program please comment!

I want to apply for the Spring 2021 cycle. Does anyone know what the total tuition including housing, books etc would look like? Can anyone who did attend this program share what their total costs came down to? Would be super beneficial!

hey all, I also recently applied for the 2021 Spring cycle at UMB. I was wondering if you guys would feel comfortable sharing your GPA/ pre req GPA. Thank you!!

@Johnny chan My pre req GPA is 3.8 and my overall GPA is 3.7. what about you?

I was considering applying to MGH, but had the same thoughts with the financial reasons. I may apply to MGH if I don't get into UMB, but UMB is the only school I'm applying to for now. My overall GPA is a 3.5 and my prereq GPA is a 3.9. I know some people who recently graduated from the program at UMB and are kind of struggling to find jobs right now. They have taken CNA positions in the meantime and I've heard with MGH's program it basically guarantees you a job at MGH. Still not sure that is worth double the cost in tuition, but worth considering.

@efc1996 I got into Curry College and it is the only other program I applied to so I am just waiting to hear back from UMass at this point.

@bek72 congratulations!

Does anyone know if UMB notifies people of acceptance as they go or all at once?

@martijan I get that. I got accepted to MGH for Spring 2021 but Umass is so much more affordable. Crossing my fingers for all of you!

I also got accepted for MGH for Spring 2021 and am wavering because I want to go on and get my NP so spending $85k on the RN part seems insane. Refreshing my UMB portal hourly ?

@JDanielle3687 Right?! It’s insane how much it costs. I put my deposit down at MGH because I didn’t want to lose my spot if I don’t get into Umass but I am really hoping I do ??

@JDanielle3687 I also want to pursue becoming a Nurse Practitioner! I totally agree that spending that much seems insane...   Did you look into any direct entry programs? I looked into some but felt like doing the BSN first made more sense.  Wondering what other peoples thoughts are?

@efc1996 I feel that! I’m waiting until the last day to put my money down for MGH hoping for a decision. I asked ---------------- and she said early November for decisions and MGH deadline is 11/2 so cutting it close! I’d hate to pay the deposit and then find out I got into UMass the next day.

@martijan I did apply for some dnp programs! I love the BC program and applied last year but didn’t get in. I applied to the MGH program and got waitlisted for the fall. I didn’t get off the waitlist and they told me to transfer my app to the ABSN program and once I did that I got in within a week. I’m of two minds; if you can afford to do the DNP go for it! But for me getting the RN and then working while moving towards the NP is a better route for me.

@JDanielle3687 That's exactly how I feel.  I think working as an RN while completing the Masters makes the most sense for me but I am still considering the direct entry programs.  A lot depends on whether or not I get into UMB.  November seems so far for decisions haha I'm so impatient ?

Same! I totally agree with you guys. I looked at some dnp programs too, but with the cost of the private school programs in Boston it seemed like it made more sense to do the bachelors at UMB first (fingers crossed!) and then pursue a masters while working as a nurse, but I totally get wanting to get all the schooling over with at once. Since I am not in a rush, I have debated just applying to UMB's program again for the Summer 2021 class if I don't get in for Spring. I hope they will be open to giving application feedback if I don't get in. I don't even want to think about that yet though...hopefully we all get in! So nervous!
