UMass Boston - ABSN Spring 2021

Published

I did not see a thread for this cohort, so everyone interested in this absn program please comment!

I want to apply for the Spring 2021 cycle. Does anyone know what the total tuition including housing, books etc would look like? Can anyone who did attend this program share what their total costs came down to? Would be super beneficial!

--------------------a told me the same thing yesterday. I had a missing transcript that I wasn't sure would arrive today and she said that they are accepting materials until 10/15. I think some applicants are having trouble mailing/sending transcripts due to COVID delays. I know that was the case for me. I tried to send all of my transcripts in a packet at the beginning of September, but they never arrived at the Admissions Processing Center. So, I resorted to e-transcripts this past weekend, but one of my schools doesn't offer e-transcripts and employees aren't in the office at the school so it has been tricky to get the last transcript there. Anyways, seems like others are having similar mailing issues. It's really nice of them to extend the date..but I hope it doesn't effect my acceptance that I had a 'late' item...

Hi everyone, I applied for Spring 2021. While I know the program is mostly online I live in CT about 2 hours away so am thinking I would need to move to the area if accepted. Wondering if anyone else is in the same position?

If accepted and decide to go with UMASS, I’ll be moving from Canada! I have family in CT though. I’m still not sure what I’ll be doing in regards to living arrangements. I believe a bunch of people will be commuting or may get a place nearby. Boston isn’t cheap from what’ve I’ve heard though

Yes Boston is quite pricey to live in! I live about 45 minutes from the school so I’d be commuting, but if you end up attending Umass, look into Quincy, Somerville, Braintree, Weymouth, etc. They’re right outside Boston but still within a 30-35 minute drive/close to the T ? If you have a few roommates you can also find a decently priced place closer to the city; Brighton, Cambridge, Allston, etc!

Just wondering - My understanding is that the program is fully online except for the 2 weeks of clinical rotations at the end of each term, does anyone have different info than that?

Thanks for the suggestions. Definitely gonna have to find some roommates and search around to get a good price. It stresses me out that UMass isn't gonna get back to us until end of this month or beginning of next!

I remember reading on a past thread you meet just a few other times on campus for progress checks/skill assessments, but I’m not entirely sure!

Yeah they no longer have that setup basically all classes are online. You need to come to campus once or twice a semester for clinical competency testing....also there are open lab hours you can go to. With clinical it is 72 hours per semester but it is spread out into shifts across the semester (6x 12 hr or 9x 8hr). They can no longer do the two week thing because hospitals didn't always have availability and they need to ensure clinical placement.

Did you guys apply / get into any other programs?

I am only applying for UMB for Spring. But if that doesn't work out I have some other programs that only have one start date a year which is May or August I plan to apply to/am working on the applications for. How about you?

@Perrys1998 Thanks for that info! I attended an info session a few months ago and they didn't explain that so that's great to know - also seems to make sense but definitely more difficult for people who don't live closeby.

@efc1996 I applied to MCPHS for fall 2020 and was accepted but didn't go mostly due to financial reasons and felt like I couldn't leave my current job. I've only applied to UMB for Spring 2021 and I'm reallllly hoping I get in.

@martijan I get that. I got accepted to MGH for Spring 2021 but Umass is so much more affordable. Crossing my fingers for all of you!
