uk nursing wanting to work in florida

You have to have received a generalist training to be eligible to take N-CLEX etc. If you were originally an RGN who did your 18 month (or was it 12 I can't remember now) conversion to RSCN then you will be fine. However, if you did the new style course where you do a common foundation year & then branch off you probably will not have enough hours in adult, pyschiatry & possibly maternity too.

You could try getting a CES done to find out for sure but it's not cheap. Or contact the board of nursing again and just ask them to tell you what hours they want both theory & practical then check with your university if you did those hours.

Hi there
I'm new to this so bear with me!
I posted this in Florida forum and someone there has pointed me in your direction...
My situation is that i am a registered children's nurse in the UK with 10 years experience. I am currently undertaking a masters level nurse practitioner program in "Pediatric Ambulatory Care".
My wife and i are interested in moving to the orlando area in the not too distant future and i am trying to find out if i will be allowed to register in Florida.
The CGFNS says they are not sure as my nursing qualification is children's based and not general nursing, the Florida board of nursing were unsure as well... i am waiting for a response from the director of education...
does anyone have any experience of pediatric nursing in florida or whether a uk registered advanced nurse practitioner in pediatrics would be able to work in florida.
I hope someone can help - we are longing to be able to come to the usa to work but do not think we'd get visa's unless i am able to work in my current role.

Can be done online but when you send your transcripts you can't send them only the uni can send them and what I did was arrange for FedEx to collect from the uni as better to send registered and not snailmail as they take weeks/months to open them. I would imagine you wouldn't really get any answer until your transcripts are looked at, and each state has different requirements

Not sure about job as US nurses are generic trained but would image someone would snap you up... Good luck

I also got my transcripts Fed-Ex'd but I went to the university to check them first in front of the staff there before I got them to sign, seal & stamp them. That was because they made a mistake in the first ones (luckily I's asked them to send me a copy!

I was lucky as already sent transcripts a few yrs ago but I trained in 1986 and did conversion in 98 and knew I met criteria so wasn't bothered about checking my transcripts so happy to leave it with the uni just arrange for FexEx to collect

I had no problem with my transcripts I spoke to the University of Manchester, school of nursing they sent them to my agency and then later on in process I needed another set of transcripts, I just phoned them and this time they didnt charge me, the first set cost 20 pounds.

It shut off at 75 & most questions were telephone the priority patient, teaching or infection control. I had 7-10 tick all that apply, mostly drug related plus a delegation & a pick out the correct nursing care. I had to do absolutely no maths whatsoever. It was as horrible as everyone said it would be!

I have a house in Homosassa already (holiday home there for 9+ years) so am looking in that area through to Tampa - because I'm very close to the Suncoast Parkway.

Honestly I have never had a problem with exams, but the NCLEX was so hard-half of the disease questions I had never heard of. I was lucky I go no maths questions, or tick all that apply but I must have been C**p at universal precautions I had 5 lol.

I didn't have any real problems with the NCLEX I have worked in a variety of settings so i think that helped, also i'm old so i was trained when we had to do calculations so that also helped. I did revise but I was switched off at 75 questions 55mins it took and i'm not the revision changed much really.
