UK Nursing and European Resources

World UK

Published

I started this thread to list websites that can be used as resources for those working in or looking to work in the United Kingdom. I have added the potential to list European sites that may be useful as well especially for any who might want to go on a working holiday.

I will start the thread but will rely on everyone to add to the thread:D

I hope this will grow to be a valuable resource for all.

Here is the Uk registration board

Here is a nursing resources search engine.

how can i be a reg nurse in us? thnx. is there still exams or training, etc?

if you are looking at the US then suggest you read the sticky at the top of the International forum titles Primer to working in the US. If you are looking at the UK you have to follow requirements for overseas training on the NMC website. Please be aware at the moment it is very hard to get a work permit for the UK, suggest you have a read on here

:welcome:

Got that SD. =) can u pls advise me wer is the fastest/ good place to work in the US? Do advise too how to apply there. Thank You very much! =)

would suggest you check out the International forum as that is aimed more to the US whereas this is aimed at the UK. At the moment there is retrogression in place and nothing is moving fast for any nurse. Would suggest you read the internatinal forum, then decide where you want to live and take it from there. Much better to pass NCLEX and english exams before you look for employer as much better for getting a job, but would recommend a good read on international forum :D

Welcome to the site

You will need to meet the requirements for the NMC for overseas nurses but be aware due to current guidelines in immigration it will be very and I mean very hard to get a work permit as employers have to employ someone from UK then EU before rest of the world.

My wife (an emergency room nurse) and I (a critical care nurse) are thinking about leaving the USA after I finish my MSN for family nurse practitioner. I have been scanning a few threads about working in the UK as a nurse or nurse practitioner. I was just wondering why it is so hard to get work in the UK as a nurse? Is this a beurocracy issue? Does the UK not have the shortage that other places have? Would love to hear your thoughts on this. Thanks in advance for your time.

Apparently EU have set down certain limits by saying got to employ from own country then EU before rest of the world unless you have a skill which is on the shortage list and employer can justify and prove why they have employed outside the EU. Also currently many UK nurses are struggling to find work including newly qualified and some have even been laid off due to NHS trusts suffering financially. Staffing levels on the wards as very poor but management just aren't bothered and many nurses are off sick with stress or leaving either to new career or moving abroad. Pay is also an issue and the new banding for nurses has in my opinion gone a step backwards and each trust can decide on how they decide on grade, for example you can have 2 nurses both doing the same role and job description but in 2 different hospitals and be paid differently

This is my opinion and am sure some others will offer theirs

It took me 2 years to get licensed and I encountered resentment against Americans in the workplace-only friendly people were Australians. Also,I would not have been able to afford to work there if I were not already receiving a retirement pension which took care of my expenses at home. Good luck.
