UK nurses going to the US

I am due to have a job interview for a hospital in the US that my agency sourced for me.Assuming I get the job then my agency will apply for a EB3 visa and Green Card for me and I wondered what other people's experiences are in the same situation. Whether you've been through it or are going through it now.I would love to hear tips, helpful hints and also everything that went wrong. It would help to know what to watch for.

Thanks everyone.

Hi

Just joined the forum to explore the idea of nursing in the States as my daughter has just married a Texan. At the moment they live in the UK but at some point they will probably try out life in the US to see if she can settle there.

I just wondered if all of you in the process at the moment have gone with an agency or are some of you just getting your registration and using a different route?

Thanks

Hi , I qualified in 2003 , one of the last Project 2000 cohorts and I am a RN-adult and I had no problem with my hours for Paediatrics and maternity as we had an 18 months foundation before specialising for the last 18 months .Did you do your nursing after project 2000? If you did then you can get your transcript assessed by CGFNS and see where you stand.

I was one of the first project 2000 nurses so am hoping that because of the same common foundation programme I too will have little problem with the hours. As I would most likely be aiming for Texas I will be interested to know if you went through and agency or not?

Thanks

Hello

Look for an agency who is willing to employ you and they will help with the process. And about ur hours, some states will accepts you with your hours. You just have to try. The process is lengthy so start now?

I went through an agency because they help you through the whole complicated process. The best thing to do for you is to register with CGFNS and a board of nursing that does not require a SSN . Texas is one of those. Get your nursing transcript assessed and then you can make a plan. Also just start studying for the NCLEX . You’ll be fine. From this point onwards persistence is the name of the game.

Thanks. I'll scroll back to see if you mentioned who you used. I already tried a mock/previous NCLEX on nurse plus and passed, I know that I need to do more prep... it might have been luck. I'm ex Neurosurgery then ICU, banked A&E and have been Endoscopy for the last 12 years.

Also haven't looked up the Jurisprudence yet. My hubby's options for his career seem to be Dallas or Houston, though our daughter is more likely to be just north of Austin.

You dont have to register with CGFNS for New York BON and i was not required to make up hours .

I used an Agency called Medpro, so far so good and they pay for everything.

The jurisprudence exam is a open book exam. You won’t fail. Choose your agency with care , compare contracts and be sure before you sign.

So is your agency sourcing a permanent position for you, and how long are you bound to them/that job?

Yes my agency helped me find a job. My contract is for 3 years. Most agencies have contracts for 2-3 years. Pick carefully.

Does anyone know the pay rates with these angencies? Are the rates similar to that which nurses employed directly by the hospital receive?

Also, although it’s a 2/3 year contract can you move between hospitals as long as you are with the agency or do you stay in the one location for 2/3 years?

Any one with any info who is working with agencies?

Thanks,

claire.

Just wondered if you can give me the name of your agency as you are heading to Texas they might be worth looking into.

Also notice on some of your other posts that you say "we" just want to get to the states. Does that mean you have a spouse going? and if so will they also have the right to work or have they had to apply separately?

I've tried looking this up and failed to find the information.

Thanks
