I am in the usvi, and have been here nearly a year, maybe all the nurses who have posted their news about immigration, can now post about the differences in the us hospitals. I dont think that american doctors and nurses fully understand where we come from, and the working environment of the nhs, its only when we get here that we can understand the differences. I am sure that stateside hospitals are different even from here. and that they also vary from state to state, but maybe nurses who are waiting to come will be able to pick up some tips and know more than us what to expect.
christine....from wales to scotland to united states virgin islands, and then to the states, in january.
I came with ogp and was only offered interviews for placement after I had the date for my embassy interview, so they didnt know where they were sending me anyway. I had the interview with the hospital, gave 4 week's notice at work, had the embassy interview and was on a plane a couple of weeks later, exactly 4 weeks after being given a placement.
I was really frustrated at not knowing where we were coming to, but it all seems like a dream now.
I sat the n-clex june 2003, and flew here july 1st 2004. my licence is from vermont.

Just a shot in the dark really I used to know a nurse from Manchester who moved to Shrewbury and worked in a renal unit there. We kind lost touch years ago.
oh right, its not a name i know but the renal unit is quite big now its had a big expansion and theres alot of new faces, i will ask though if you like some of the nurses on my ward have been there a while and they might know her, our ward is seperate from the unit so we dont see the staff so much anymore
another good day on the beach, one of the better days when we can swim in the sea and collect some shells, got some sand dollars today, never seen them before come straight from the sea. just going out to eat now, another very american thing. we only seem to cook on the days that I work.
going out with another nurse and a lab tech who are also travellers. we tend to stick with each other.

Medicals went ok I think. I had the dt injection because I couldnt prove immunity and I couldnt be bothered to go back to gp to get proof and then fax it back to medical centre. It only cost me 15 pounds but hey I am suffering now I feel awful and arm like a football. Working long day too. So feeling very sorry for myself.
