Hi People
I am a UK born citizen trained in Australia hence I am going via the overseas trained route. I passed my CBT test and am in the full application and assessment stage.
I am interested in sharing information with people who are also in this stage of the application.
I commenced my application in 2013 under the old process which was rejected due to lack of clinical hours. I received a letter from NMC advising me of the new process. Like many people on this forum, this entire process has been long, drawnout, frustrating and tedious for me!!!!!!!
Hi Nursemicky
Thanks for sharing your experience. I, like most people on this forum, am facing hell with this process.
With regards to the new process, I was placed in the assessment queue on 28 April 2015.
On 2nd July I received a notice that further information was required. They required a UK police check and clarification of IELTS results as I had accidentally missed a number out.
I immediately rectified these issues. The UK police check showed up as received on my portal on 11 August.
Now following documents have disappeared from my online portal:
- Training Area reference form
- Registration Authority Verification
- Reference form 1
- Reference form 2
- Declaration of good health
Apparently a "technical glitch" is the cause of this. Now they have to manually scan them in again...!!!! Once they scan them in I am told it takes about 2 weeks to reflect on the portal. It really is beyond a joke. They seem to be taking every opportunity to delay things. I honestly believe they are deliberately stalling my application. So demeaning to have to go through this!
Got my decision letter!!! It actually went a lot faster than I thought it would. That is, once they fixed their "technical error," which caused documents that had already showed up as "received" months ago to stop showing up on the portal. So if anyone else has had that issue, they did fix it eventually. I emailed them, called 3 different times, received an email telling me to stop calling, and after about 2 months the problem was resolved. It took about 3-4 weeks from the time I mailed a document for it to show up as received. I submitted the online application on 7/14 and received my decision letter on 8/19. I was pleasantly surprised since I was hunkering down for a 70 day wait :) Now I just need to schedule my OSCE. Good luck everyone, and I'm looking forward to hearing about your OSCE experiences!
hi guys, just want to inform my personal experience with NMC, i observed that if we regularly call and send email, the decision letter will be faster. As for my case, they have received all my docs on July 1, my assessment started, then August 13, they emailed me for verification of some dates (registration in saudi) I accidentally re-submitted my online application without changes or looking up any further on what do they really want with the dates, As I am afraid I will be at the bottom of queue again, I called them 3x/day for the next 2 days and sent them an email, though the answer was I have to wait for another 30 days for the assessment. but to my surprise, my decision letter came after a week from the incident.
UK Gal, that's so frustrating! It's unfortunate that the "technical glitch" happened to more people. I know I was annoying them, but I kept calling to see if they were any closer to fixing it and to see if they needed me to do anything else. I never actually talked to anybody who knew any details about the issue or could answer any of my questions. I was always felt like I was being brushed off when they told me to try calling again later. But nevertheless, I do kind of think that bugging them so much made the decision letter come through quicker. Don't give up and keep following up with them! I wasn't very inclined to believe that they were actually fixing the issue, but I guess they were (slooooowly), and everything turned out all right eventually.
Believe me Nursemicky
I have done all that.... I have called them constantly, emailed them and even written to them.
They are aware that it is a fault on their end..... I am also CONSTANTLY reminding them of the issue...
To date the only thing remaining is for them to re-upload the documents which 'mysteriously' disappeared from the portal......
Hopefully I will get the good news this coming week...

Hello :)
So I thought it's probably easier to put up on post because a few of you were asking me about the OSCE. I'm not allowed to say too much because you do have to sign a form saying you won't discuss the test and I'm sure you can call appreciate that, having waited 2 years, I'll be making sure I don't get into trouble with the NMC haha!
I actually think the OSCE is a lot more fair than the first test.
My best tip is:
The Northampton online material indicates what you need to focus on so pay attention to what is on there.
I gave myself 2 weeks to prepare for the test and I felt that was enough for me - but I also know that I'm the kind of person who needs pressure in order to get motivated haha. We all work differently! Also Australia's health system is so similar to the UK, it's basically based on it so a lot of the information I didn't look over because it's the same.
The main thing to remember is, they are asking for new graduate level (it's stated in the Candidate information booklet mentioned previously in this forum and available on NILE when you get access). You're not expected to know about EVERYTHING.
I get a bit anxious about going to new places so I found the video on the Northampton University website helpful NMC Test of competence
They also have some brief information on preparing here NMC Test of Competence Preparation which you can look out while you wait for a decision letter.
There's an NMC representative who checks all your documents after the test.
I did the test on a Monday and found out three days later that I passed. I've now paid for the registration and waiting for the PIN. The NMC representative at the test said it would take up to 5 working days to find out if I passed then 5 days after paying for the registration to receive the PIN.
Sorry I can't say much more, I really hope you guys get through soon! I still feel like I have the background stress of registration on my mind. It really is awful. But just think, if you have a 30 year career this time won't matter! It will seem like a small blip after time.
Don't give up!

hi! In the new system, they only said police clearance form where you had your registration.. But in the old system, nmc really specified to get police clearance from all countries you've lived since you're 18. A few of us here processed uk police clearance since nmc did require them in the end. One of the members here got her DL even without her uk police clearance but was told to bring/submit it during the OSCE where they also check your documents. If i were you i will just process police clearance. It's just £10 anyway.. But processing it takes up to 40 days. Just to be prepared in case nmc asks you for it. :)
Hi friends,
I was put on assessment on june 5th. I received a mail on july 14th asking for a resubmission of declaration of good health (as it was filled by my employer). I resubmitted, and I am into queue again on August 4th. Any idea about the waiting time? Will they do assessment fast as it is a resubmission?

Hi...there are some inconsistencies with the NMC, you might get to be the one of lucky ones and receive you DL quicker after resubmission of additional documents or one of the unlucky ones and have to wait up to 70 days...I submitted additional documents on the 3rd of July. .which were police clearances in my case, had to upload them online and I am still waiting for my DL, I am calling almost everyday and emailing...this week is my 8th week in the assessment queue, I got to a point where I will just wait for 70 days to elapse I guess...but good luck with your and lets hope they process it sooner...
