UK Nurse Registration Full Application and Assessment stage before OSCE

Published

Hi People

I am a UK born citizen trained in Australia hence I am going via the overseas trained route. I passed my CBT test and am in the full application and assessment stage.

I am interested in sharing information with people who are also in this stage of the application.

I commenced my application in 2013 under the old process which was rejected due to lack of clinical hours. I received a letter from NMC advising me of the new process. Like many people on this forum, this entire process has been long, drawnout, frustrating and tedious for me!!!!!!!

Hi @rayofhope,

You may wait for few days and recheck if it already indicates that the document has been received. I've also encountered the same situation where my PRC documents were the first one to be noted as "received". After 5 days as far as I remember, all the downloaded forms were already tagged as received.

Thank You jaysfordays.. I was wondering whether I should send a mail to NMC. Anyway I will wait for a few more days.

Hi all,

im a newbie to this site and wanted to share thoughts and hopefully gain some advice!

I am also a British Citizen born and raised in the UK. I obtained my Nursing Degree in Australia during my 10 years living in OZ. I have returned home to the UK with my little children in toe to find myself going through the most stressful and frustrating time with the NMC! Like a lot of you I'm sure.

I started the registration process in April 2014 and returned to the UK in July 2014. Before receiving my decision letter (which I had to fight for), I was told by the NMC that I had been unsuccessful in the old process and advised to reapply! I was livid! Being persistent and getting through to someone other than a call centre person I finally had my decision letter. (the NMC also miscounted my clinical hours!!!)

Now my dilemma is finding an ONP, prices vary greatly, the NMC have stopped accrediting some universities because they have begun this new process. Do I reapply and do the tests??? After reading some posts it seems that even the tests are not straight forward to pass ( a ploy for more money no doubt)

According to the various posts here. I believe the NMC is approving people to do the OSCE in batches/stages.

Lucky people like charee10190 must have been amongst the first batch. The second batch appear to be those who were notified that their documents were all received by 28th April. The next lot will be the third batch....

Has anyone, who enquired with NMC about their application, received any date other than the 28th April as to when their documents were all received?

Hi rayofhope

I think it is better to ring them up and enquire about it as I had experienced the same problem with reference letters. I have waited for 1 month since the receipt confirmation and finally rang up to ask them about it. they have replied that somebody had uploaded both the reference letters under reference form 1 and wouldn't let me move on to assessment Que as everything was not updated.

Hi Charlieplus2

I share your frustration 100%. I actually started this process early 2013 but was severely delayed with the changes to the rules implemented in April/May 2013. All overseas applications were halted. I was then informed in Feb 2014 that I did not qualify due to lack of hours. At this time I was looking into UCAS to restudy nursing using APEL. In around Sep 2014 they advised me that I was eligible to apply via the new process. I currently am WAITING... As a returining British citizen I have no choice but to put up with this....

With regards to the ONP have you searched available courses on the NMC website?

Click the following link:

Approved programmes

Just select your country (England) and qualification (Overseas Nursing Programme).

When I was applying under the old system I seem to remember it was relatively easy to find the theoretical component but hard to find the clinical component. Try contacting University of Chester or University of Northampton by phone as they seemed at the time to be more promising. In fact worth trying all.

My registration authority form was received by nmc last april2,

Online submission april8

The rest of my 3rd party docs was delivered to nmc april22

all my docs have a side note "document has been received" last May18

Till now, no email feedback for osce yet :( i called nmc and the agent told me that its in the decision queue already :(

#frustratingWaitingGame

I really do hope they'll come up with a good course of action relating to osce scheds asap.

:(

Hi all

Has anybody paid the osce fee to Northampton Uni yet? Has anyone received any osce related materials upon the payment from uni.

has anybody taken the exam date?

I am just confused that what would be the scenarios like.

Charlieplus - my advice: DO THE ONP!! starting up the new process is a huge frustration of a task, and you'll likely add on an extra 6 months to 1 year of waiting time before you can finish registering.

i'm sure there are a few more ONP programs left, but you'll have to hurry as it is phasing out. although you'll get paid little to nothing, it's better to at least get your feet in the door and use your nursing skills rather than sitting around on your bum for months waiting for the NMC like the rest of us :)

sherry - we are not supposed to pay northampton uni until NMC gives us the authorization to sit the exam. the university told me that they are not able to release their study materials or a calendar of available dates UNTIL a person has the authorization from NMC to take the test.

in theory, you can purchase the exam before you get authorization from the NMC, but the university will still not be able to give you access to study materials until they get your name on an approved list from the NMC. the fee is also non-refundable so it's probably not a good idea to pay for it until you have the authorization to take it anyways.

the university has a website if you search for "nmc test of competence" it brings you to the page, and there was a "candidate guide" that i found on there that explains the outline of the OSCE and lists some of the skills you could be tested on. it also provides a list of books that are useful for preparing. i purchased an e-book copy of one of them called "succeed in OSCEs and practical exams, an essential guide for nurses" which lists some examples of scenarios you might see.

I was given that date as well. They told me that on their file, my papers were officially received on April 28th.

Hi UK Gal it also states in my account that my documents have all been received last April 28 and still I'm in the decision queue. How did you get the information about the batches?
