Well said.
this experience has left a bad taste in my mouth. I do not think I will accept my position as I don't know if the rest of the program is run in such a haphazard way as well.
I am feeling a bit of "we have you at our mercy so be quiet until we tell you anything"

I get what you mean but a lot of schools are like this, too. Rush for example has two wait lists and tells some of its students where they are on the waitlist and get updates. Some students are just told that they were waitlisted and don't even get updates (similar to what UIC's doing). I never even got a reply from Marquette until I called them and asked.

Then all of them need to change the way things are done. People want to plan for the next thing in their lives and it seems like the schools want them to be stagnated - definitely not what an educational institute principle should portray. I don't want to be like okay next move take these classes, keep working, look for new programs, and start over; basically have a plan that ok content with and then not even a week before classes start oh hey we have a spot for you. That is unnecessary stress. Mind you I would be grateful, but these schools need to get thier act together. There is nothing wrong with keeping someone informed. At least that way their phones and emails aren't constantly filling up with messages & questions. All they have to do is keep people informed.

Did anyone from the waitlist get contacted yet? This sucks :/ For my job, I was asked if I could stay full time for another year but I've been dragging on that because of this waitlist, sighs.

Nope not I. But I re-read the Waitlist Q&A and from my understanding they can actually keep us waiting up until the day classes start. More broadly it just says spring and summer semesters until you may hear anything if at all.

I just checked my email and spam and didn't see anything so maybe your one of the lucky ones. Does the email tell you how many spots are open or just that there is a spot open and that they are offering it to you?

Hi everyone! So I am on the waitlist as well, I called Michael this past friday and I basically asked the same questions that some of you have already. He said he had no update for me and that I could be waiting up until 2 weeks before classes start. So, because I could be waiting quite a while, I want to at least be able to plan the end of my summer. Does anybody who has been accepted know when classes start?

Does anyone who has been accepted into the GEM program at UIC have any input on how the school year is going so far? I applied for 2017 and am interested in hearing opinions on it.
