2016 UIC Graduate Entry Master of Science Program (GEM)

Published

I haven't seem a UIC 2016 GEM thread yet. Did anyone apply? How competitive is the GEM program?

Got my acceptance email about 10 minutes ago!

I actually found really cheap housing and will be living in an apartment :) UWM has a Masters of Nursing program (MN (Direct Entry) | College of Nursing). Unlike a lot of the other programs, UWM offers a Master of Nursing instead of masters of Science in Nursing - I've been told mixed things about the difference between the MN and MSN (essentially I think they are the same, but I've been told the MN has a little higher standing). You are eligible to sit for your Clinical Nurse Leader certificate when you graduate (CNL) and 27 credits from the Masters can be applied to your doctorate. They really have a well structured program that gives you two years of work experience before starting your doctorate - but you don't have to take years off between the two - you can just go straight through. The program is well organized and my adviser is just fantastic. Constantly letting me know what I need to do/what is going on....she emailed me asking if I ordered my pants yet :).... UWM wasn't even on my watch list (I applied on a whim and didn't really look into it until I got my acceptance), but I have really fallen in love with the program and school! UIC in state tuition is also comparable to UWM out of state tuition (about a 5k difference).

Wait I didn't realize you could see your financial aid decisions already, I know it's a silly question but could you post the link? And congratulations on the acceptances! I went to uic undergrad and this is so typical of them in terms of untimely responses/communication :/

Congrats to those who got their acceptances!

Gotcha - well that is good to know :( Hopefully they offer a way for applicants to voice their opinions and work with the feedback. For financial aid decisions:

1. Log into the portal at https://my.uic.edu

2. Click on the "Finances" Tab

3. Click on "Award Letter"

4. Select the 2016-2017 Aid Year to view your Financial Aid Award Letter.

You will need your acceptance letter and UIC ID number to activate your account (should be in an email).

Me too!

I clicked the link in the email to accept my spot.

It was so exciting that it was a blur and am paranoid I hit the deny option..

But I remember clicking the first option and rereading it like three times..

Omg I don't even remember how to pay the 250 because I assumed they'd send a confirmation email with the same info..

Had to log on to my UIC application account to find anything. I was accepted, but never received an email/can't log in to the UIC portal to see financial aid decisions. As of right now I will be going to UWM unless UIC offers a financial deal that I can't refuse. I've been really disappointed in UIC's communication, response time, and overall organization for the GEM program though :(

That's odd! I got an email but my online account still says referred to committee or something along those lines

I got the email too but my account hasn't changed!

I'm going to say if you get an email you're good to go! I wouldn't worry about it!!

Does anyone know anything about the NURSE Corps Scholarship program? Is it worth applying for?

I know they pay tuition, book and supply fees and pay a monthly stipend. They require you to work in specific settings for 2 years after completion of school.

It does guarantee you a job but you will be limited

there is quite a bit of paperwork. Read up on it

im trying to figure out if i want to apply
