UH 2nd Degree BSN 2020 Applicants (University of Houston Second Degree BSN Program)

Published

Hello future nursing students!

I didn't see a forum for those of us applying to the University of Houston - Sugar Land nursing program in the Spring of 2020, so I decided to start one. I have already submitted my application and completed my CPR certification, so now there's just the waiting. I've attached all the resources from the UH website that I could find, just for everyone's convenience.

I do have a few questions though: is anyone else having issues submitting the SSN release form? I get an error message every time I try, and I haven't heard back from the school about it yet (I emailed them asking if it had been received). Are y'all applying to other accelerated programs? If so- could you share which ones?

I was also wondering what kind of stats everyone who's applying has, or if anyone has any info about past applicants/students and the scores/extracurriculars that they had before acceptance. If anyone would be willing to share that info, it would be super appreciated!

Good luck to everyone!

~Ari

Hey All! I made a Facebook Group. I'm not 100% sure on how they work, but I think if you find the group you can request entrance to it. If that doesn't work, shoot me a message on FB and I'll add you manually. ?https://www.facebook.com/groups/499372357530409/

I just sent a request, thanks for making the group!

Hi I’m currently in the nursing program. Most of the people that got interviewed were accepted to the program in my case. It’s more of a formality to meet the applicants. My cohort took their badge pictures during interview day.

Thank you for replying! I wasn't sure if I should continue preparing to apply for another program, but this makes me feel much better. ?

Hello Everyone!

I applied to this program last year and was not accepted, however, I'm currently in a 12 month accelerated second degree BSN program at South Dakota State University and graduate with my BSN this December!!!!! I relocated up to SD from Dallas in January to complete this program. For those of you who are still considering applying to other schools, or are open to relocating out of state for 12 months, this program is still accepting applications through NursingCAS for the Aberdeen campus. Orientation for the Spring 2020 cohort which starts the first week of January is next month. Here is a link to the website. https://www.sdstate.edu/undergraduate-nursing/accelerated-option-aberdeen

I know this program gets a lot of applications. Texas schools are very competitive in general, so looking at out of state programs is one way to ensure you are starting a nursing program in January! Let me know if you have any questions!

Hey I was wondering if anyone could tell me what the timeline for orientation or drug testing looks like after acceptance. I'm out of town for a few months so I'm trying to map it all out. Thank you!

Hi! I was chosen for the interview. Does this mean I’m basically accepted and they just wanna know more about me? Or is selection based on interview?

Selection is based on interview. They want to really know the candidate and their background . A few of the people that I interviewed with didn’t make it but the majority did. We found out about 3-4 later who got accepted to the program.

3-4 days later? or 3-4 weeks? Sorry just trying to clarify!

3-4 days later. We had our interview on Thursday (If I’m not mistaken)and found out Monday. I do remember one of the professor telling me (one random day in class haha) that they selected their new cohort right after we left from the interview. They spent the whole afternoon deciding who would be a perfect fit for the program.

A few people mentioned that invites went out on more than one day, has anyone gotten one after Monday?

I still haven't heard anything yet. I'm not sure if it matters but from last year's forum the first wave of email invites came out on 9/11, second wave 9/13, and someone received a rejection on 9/15. Again, this is when they posted their updates, not necessarily when they got it so the dates is probably just a best estimate of when emails come out(?). I was hoping someone would hear back by yesterday because the second wave from last year seem to come out two days after.

The invite says we have until 5pm on 9/16 to confirm that we will attend interview day. So, maybe the next round will come after that deadline and spots open up

Hello everyone!

I have a 3.0 overall GPA (bad decisions in my early college years) but my prereq GPA will be about a 3.8 and I have 9 years experience in the medical field. Do you think that my 3.0 cumulative GPA will hurt my chances of getting in? I plan on applying for next years program, but I am worried. Does anyone know someone who has gotten into this program with a 3.0?

Thanks in advance! and good luck to everyone who applied this year!
