I know of some students that were awarded scholarships at the begging of the semester but most of us had to apply once we started.

Purse should be fine.

As a student who has gone through the interview process, I would not recommend a briefcase as you will be in different activities through the day (different rooms) which involves a lot of walking and climbing stairs. I would take the least amount of stuff if possible. You don’t need to take resumes. Best of luck on Friday!

3-4 days later. We had our interview on Thursday (If I’m not mistaken)and found out Monday. I do remember one of the professor telling me (one random day in class haha) that they selected their new cohort right after we left from the interview. They spent the whole afternoon deciding who would be a perfect fit for the program.

Selection is based on interview. They want to really know the candidate and their background . A few of the people that I interviewed with didn’t make it but the majority did. We found out about 3-4 later who got accepted to the program.

I’m a current student. Try to interact with other nursing candidates. The professors are definitely watching if you have communication skills.

Hi I’m currently in the nursing program. Most of the people that got interviewed were accepted to the program in my case. It’s more of a formality to meet the applicants. My cohort took their badge pictures during interview day.

In terms of GPA and TEAS scores: > They varied greatly...some students had the best scores but didn’t get in due to other areas in the application being weak. > I have no problem giving my Stats: I had an 80 TEAS and a 3.5 GPA. > You’ve got this, don’t worry:) Let is know if you y’all get an interview so we can give y’all some tips;) In terms of applications: > Mrs. Medina and the faculty don’t really give out stats until orientation night when they invite your family to the pinning ceremony (they are still kind of vague when giving out that info) Our application cycle was around yours or a little less. I don’t really know how many applications were rejected but I do know that they always receive incomplete applications where the student forgets to fill in a thing or two (so they reject them right away) Commonalities: > Not really. We all have different backgrounds and volunteer experiences. At least 5-10% of the class speak different languages. > My volunteer/work background is in both rural and urban areas Rural 1. Health Clinic-Lab Technician 2. Hospital- ER Patient Care Tech 3. Nursing Home- Certified Nurses Aide Urban 1. Institute for Health Disparities Research - HIV/AIDS Research Assistant 2. Alzheimer’s Association- Program advocacy and Activities Intern

When does the application cycle close for you guys? If I’m not mistaken, we were called for an interview about 3-4 weeks after the application closed.

Yes. The majority of us have a Bachelors of Science. But don’t get discouraged if you don’t. Like I said UH does a holistic view on applications.

No. I meant to say that we were told at the interview that UHCON had received over 850 applications and that we were lucky enough to be in the 100+ that were selected for an interview.

TEAS Scores and GPAs varied. I believe that they received over 850 application and about 100+ were selected for an interview (102 were accepted) and as of now there about 75 of us are still in the program. There are not looking just at GPAs but more of your clinical experience. Most of us were CNAs and EMTs (we had a few teachers in the cohort). Its more of a holistic view. I would suggest skimming through your textbooks before the semester starts because once the program begins you literally won't have time to read ALL of your textbooks (I highly recommend you manage your time wisely as there were be a lot of moments where you will feel burned out). We also had the same issue with calling the UHCON program for more information (They wont really answer your questions) unless you come to an open house.

No problem. For us this year we weren’t required to complete all clinical requirements until we got accepted. Most of my classmates didn’t not complete the requirements until 2-3 months into the program.
