Essays... essays.... essays....
And the lab part too. Essays... essays.
After I got my first essay graded I felt I am not going to like my instructor. Anybody here took BIO156 @ rio salado online? Can you share experience and how you got a good grade? I have a male instructor.
To top this course, Im also enrolled to Eng101, Mat122 and Psy 101 so anybody who have input from their experience taking these online, I glady appreciate your time.
Happy Thanksgiving to you all!!! :wink2:Sassiebaz, did you register for BIO 156 @ PC? I did!! I just got my check back from Rio and am going to pay PC & pick up my book sometime in the near future. I am so glad to have seen these posts. There is no way I could have pulled it off with Rio's program!!! :) Sassie, let's keep in touch!! :):typing
Not yet, I wasn't able to register online, and I'm working full time so I haven't been able to call. I need to call on my lunch tomorrow! I'd like to take two classes, but not sure which other online class would work at PC? What other classes have yout taken so far?
Hope you all had a nice day....I ate so much, I think I'm gonna be on a food strike for the next two days!
I didn't write all 5 essays for the week. I did however write the essays when it came time to study for the mid term and final. With the final great essays and application paragraphs in mind for each topic, really help to boost your grade when the random questions throw you off.
Hi! Im doing ok on all of my class right now but Im dreading the midterms. I don't feel like I am learning a lot since it seems that all I am doing is gulping whatever I read then make them into words of my own and do essays left and right and center. Any feedback on how the midterms and finals looks like. Is there an identify the picture or sequence, like in the text book? Do you remember how many essays were required? LOL I would really like to have an idea before Im going to take it.:nuke:
I also would like to know if anybody here who took the PSY 101 how you do a collaborative debate in paper.
Pick a topic and post it on the debate board. Then respond to a few of the topics on there. Take your topic and any response you got. Then write a paper debating against what the person said against your opinion to prove your point. You don't have to put that up on the board. Thats what I did. I used the intro to write my topic, then "thesis statement" in the first paragraph. Then wrote the response I received from the board in a paragraph. Then I debated their response 1 more time to prove my point and wrapped it up with similar debates on the topic if their were some.
The Bio 156 midterm has 4 essays as do Bio 201 and Bio 202 through them. I find the midterms are on pretty much what is covered in the quizzes and tests, however the finals are a crap shoot with the second part of the multiple choice on everything else in the book.
Just to update after my 2nd week of class.. Bio 156 isn't as bad as I thought!! The Chemistry chapter has my head spinning.. all the lipids, proteins... everything.. it's a lot to absorb..
But the lab was pretty fun and as long as the work load doesn't get too much worse I think I can handle it!
So the midterm is JUST 4 essays, and no quiz/multiple choice stuff, right? But the final has a quiz and essays?
I took this class at Rio 2 yrs ago, but the midterm, as with all the Rio bio classes, consisted of 2 multiple choice sections (40 questions each) and the essay section (4 essays). Final will be the same.
Good luck!
Thanks chihmom8!Do you remember what you did to study for the multiple choice questions?
I am thinking of making flash cards of the most important concepts in each chapter..
Your welcome!
If I remember correctly, there are lesson quizes, not the ones you turn in but just to review the chapters. One at the beginning and one at the end of each lesson. Definately review all of those, as some of those show up on the multiple choice. Otherwise, yeah flashcards work well. The problem with Rio is that their midterms and finals for the bio classes can be so random. I don't remember 156 being as bad as 201 and 202, but there will probably be some questions that you get that you will wonder where the heck it came from. If you study the main concepts and study the lesson quizes, you should be good. Also, don't just study from the book, make sure you go over the online lessons as well. Sometimes there is info in those beyond what the book covers and that info will mostly likely be on the test as well.
You will also see questions relating to the labs, so consider that when making your flashcards.
Again, good luck!

Yikes,
my mid-term is 3 weeks away and I am starting t get really worried. I decided to drop algebra because I feel overwhelmed. If I didn't have an 18 month old this would be so much easier. My study time is limited to night-time and I am just not keeping up with the AYL essays each week. I have a high A in the class and the instructor loves my essays.
But, I honestly don't feel like I am retaining anything. Biology is so foreign to me. The basic concepts I get, but when the book goes into detail I get lost. There is no way I can remember everything the book says...
I just really hope I can finish all the AYL plus application paragraphs by the mid-term. I honestly feel like I am going to fail!!
I wonder if I should drop while I still can and take it in person..
