UGHHH BIO156 @ rio salado

Published

Essays... essays.... essays....

And the lab part too. Essays... essays.

After I got my first essay graded I felt I am not going to like my instructor. Anybody here took BIO156 @ rio salado online? Can you share experience and how you got a good grade? I have a male instructor.

To top this course, Im also enrolled to Eng101, Mat122 and Psy 101 so anybody who have input from their experience taking these online, I glady appreciate your time.

That's why I was kinda "what???!!" when I got my first graded essay from BIO156 because I so much spend a total of 8 to 10 hrs and just said that i need a better application paragraph... duh. I got my first graded essays from Eng and Psy and it was perfect scores. I'll just make my essays until he (Mr. B. W.) likes it.

Thank you to all the replies.

I know exactly who you are talking about...I decided to take the chem 130 and bio 156 while pregnant...I had an A in both and after I had the baby I went to a B in chem and a C in bio...either way he was not understanding that i went into labor and a brief hospital stay for jaundice...i deserved an A in the course for all of the work I did...but it was never enough for him...he would also do things like agree with my paper and then say but and list things that it could also be that were NOT in the book...then he would give me a B+...hah...almost as if to say you are never going to have an A in this class...after i had the baby i stopped caring if i had an A in the course and gladly accepted my C..:D

(Please someone correct me if Im wrong)

I just looked up the pre-req's and Micro is under the co-req section, and must be completed upon entrance to block 3. I do believe this was a change this year. So, take the NET and apply!!!

You are right. Micro is a co-req which is not required to be completed upon applying to the Nursing program. I believe BIO 202 is also a co-req - that's what I was told by an advisor at GCC.

YIKES!!! I was thinking about taking BIO156 with PSY101 ... But, I work full time. I remember when I took BIO160 a while back I ended up dropping the class because I had 2 more classes I was taking at the time... and it seemed like my instructor was a little unfair. A lot of stuff on the quizzes weren't in the book or the lesson materials. From the sounds of it BIO156 isn't much better... would it be wise for me to just take it by itself? I'm very self motivated and have found the online courses to be great for me... but I dunno if BIO156 is going to be tougher... what do you guys think?? As for my work schedule, it's very weird. I work retail full time so I don't have a set schedule (which is a total bummer). Okay, I'm done rambling :)

Bio 156 is doable with other classes, and working fulltime...so far I am managing it with Transcultural Healthcare, Algebra, and Spanish; I work fulltime hours of 4 10 hour days as a claims analyst for a bank, and I'm a single mom...so yes you can do it...you just have to know your own pace, and what you're capable of doing...good luck in your decision..

Ya know, Phoenix college has a BIO156 online. I have talked to the instructor personally. It didn't seem to be all essay like RIO. Im considering taking that in the spring! Or maybe I can by-pass and go right to A&P??? Did any of you do that?

Sassiebaz,

thanks for the info on PC offering BIO 156 online. I am definitely going to check it out. I am enrolled in BIO 156 at Rio that starts in Jan - and am not sure if that's the right program for me. Anyone else enrolled in BIO 156 at PC?

Good luck with BIO 156 everyone!

BIO 156 is a pre-req for BIO 201. So unless you took it in high school and it is accepted, then you have to take BIO 156. I tried to bypass it too but was told that since I didnt have it in highschool (I took wildlife biology) I would have to take it at the community college level.

Ohh nO!! I hate essays. I even hated writing the essays for Psy 101 even thought I got an A on every one!!

I had no idea BIO 156 was going to be more Essays. My class starts today. Ugh, this is going to be a rough 3 months. I am no fan of school, but I better get use to it.

I'm going to enroll in that one too! I spoke with the instructor and he specifically told me there are not alot of essays. We'll see!

Juliusmyn,

I know exactly who your instructor is, because I had him 2 years ago. The initials gave it away. I totally feel your frustration as after I took that class I literally about just gave up on the whole idea of nursing, as I didn't want to take anymore classes. I felt like an idiot who couldn't even write a simple essay. And I was an English major in my previous student life! I have always prided myself on my writing skills and have never had an experience like the one I had in BIO 156. It was horrible. No matter what I wrote he didn't like it. Plus, he didn't really give you any feedback on how to improve. Just short answers. Then when I tried to implement at least those suggestions, he still didn't like it. If it wasn't one thing it was another. :banghead: You just can't win.

Just stick with it and get the higher grades on the quizes, labs, mid-term and final. Make sure you do the practice quizes in the lessons as you will most likely see those questions again somewhere.

Also remember that not all instructors are this way. I had awesome instructors for 201, 205, psy 101 and chem 131. The jury is still out on my current instructor for 202. Having some issues with her on my essays there too. Luckily, there aren't as many for 202 and so I can improve my grades on the other assignments and midterm/final.

The thing with Rio is that it is just so random and a crap shoot really. If I didn't need the flexibility that Rio has provided, I would have never stuck with it to complete my pre-req's and co-req's. I would have gone to MCC and done them in person. It is what it is.

Good luck and don't give up! It does get better!

This is a little ridiculous. I am working on my first essay at BIO156 @ Rio.. and we have to submit 2 "AYL" essays on two different topics. But the instructor says we should complete all 5 essays (3 of which aren't being turned in) but that they may show up on the mid-term.

Did you guys actually do all 5 essays?? That just seems absurd to me. I've already spent two days just taking notes and doing all the quizes because I am a slow learner. It takes awhile for me to understand what I read.

I start Algebra next week...(not looking forward to it, math is my weakest subject)...

I am scared to turn in my two essays let alone write another 3 incase it's on the mid-term.

It seems a lot for just one week! But I guess I haven't seen anything yet .. This is probably easy for some people.

This is typical for all the Rio BIO classes....fun isn't it! Although, 156 tended to have more writing than some of the others. I am in BIO 202 right now and we have 2 essays per essay assignment, but we don't have them every week. I know in 156 you have them pretty much every week.

YES YES you will see those other essay questions on the midterm. I have never actually written out all of the essays, but I do research them and print out info on each one and study that so that if the question shows up on the midterm/final I will be able to answer it.

I wish you the best of luck!

I took A&P when I was a junior in high school... I graduated in 06... do you think they'd take that in place of BIO156??
