Essays... essays.... essays....

And the lab part too. Essays... essays.

After I got my first essay graded I felt I am not going to like my instructor. Anybody here took BIO156 @ rio salado online? Can you share experience and how you got a good grade? I have a male instructor.

To top this course, Im also enrolled to Eng101, Mat122 and Psy 101 so anybody who have input from their experience taking these online, I glady appreciate your time.

I am taking BIO156 right now as well, the 8 week version, and I have a male instructor also. The entire course is essay's, and if you don't write the way they want you too, they won't give you a good grade. Just remember that you must get an avereage of 60% or better on the midterm and final or it does not matter what other scores you received you will not pass the class.

Who is your instructor?

I did not have a good experience with Rio Salado. When I tried to take this class I felt like it was twice the work as a "regular" class. The instructor I had was female and she could never articulate what she wanted in the essays. She also never gave notes. I feel like their only duty is to give assignments and grade you. My feeling is why pay 300 or more dollars per class to teach yourself. I dropped the class and I was so glad I did.

I took Bio156 in the 8 week format along with Eng 101 and Psy 101 and Algebra together too!!! Yeah I had to drop Algebra and take it the next semester because there was just too many essays and papers due and quizzes that I couldn't keep up. The instructor sure will make or break the graded essay parts thats for sure. My Bio 201 instructor hated every one of my essays, either not enough personal info too much science or too much personal not enough science. Finally I just tried to ace the quizzes and mid term and final so that my essay's didn't drag me down too much and I kept writing the way I knew best eventually I got minimal deductions as I made sure I paraphrased from the book, and always have a great application paragraph. You may have my Bio201 instructor for 156. However, I received a 100% in Psy and a 96% in English... they LOVED my writing, so have my Bio202, Dev Psy, Eng 102 & Soc instructors... and there is a lot of essays in those classes as well. Just hang in there if you can!! Good luck!!

I also took an online class through Rio Salado, it was a nightmare! I took micro and failed, it isn't about the grades for the work you do, but it is all about the online midterm and final. I was so dissapointed that I have been taking a break from school. I did so well in A&P 1&2 I was shocked at how hard the online class was. I did take online classes previous to this one, but wow!!!! All I need is micro and to take the NET to apply for a nursing program, but I am so worried I will fail again I guess I am just gathering my strength.:uhoh3:

Micro is no longer a pre-req, but a co-req now. You should be able to apply now.....then maybe take Micro in person or over the summer???

That's why I was kinda "what???!!" when I got my first graded essay from BIO156 because I so much spend a total of 8 to 10 hrs and just said that i need a better application paragraph... duh. I got my first graded essays from Eng and Psy and it was perfect scores. I'll just make my essays until he (Mr. B. W.) likes it.

Thank you to all the replies.

I am confused, excuse me for being a tard, but I can take the NET test and apply for a nursing program without having the micro class under my belt already?

(Please someone correct me if Im wrong)

I just looked up the pre-req's and Micro is under the co-req section, and must be completed upon entrance to block 3. I do believe this was a change this year. So, take the NET and apply!!!

Ya know, Phoenix college has a BIO156 online. I have talked to the instructor personally. It didn't seem to be all essay like RIO. Im considering taking that in the spring! Or maybe I can by-pass and go right to A&P??? Did any of you do that?

Well, I tried taking Bio 156 for the 8 week session, that was extremely bad, and to add to it, I was in an accident when I was taking that course and the female instructor would not give me credit for the late assignments. So I'm retaking it now, not the accelerated version, and the male instructor is not too bad, but I kind of knew what to expect with the essays. It is like this throughout the entire course. So I definitely feel your pain, I'm taking this course with Algebra, Transcultural healthcare, and Spanish 2 (for UofA). It is something we just have to get used to, but we can do it.:D

Even though I had ALOT of sciences in highschool they didn't "take" them and I had to take 156.. mainly because its been 15 years since highschool and I had not gone to college prior. So I guess its up the school and if you had it in school or how long thats been.
