UFV September 2018

Hello fellow potential UFV Nursing students,

I have completed my application for Fall 2018 BSN intake and I thought that I would start a thread for open discussions, what marks everyone is applying with, concerns and such. Good luck to everyone!

Will do, gladly.

I don't really think we can prep for it. Unless you go over the basic's of essay writing...

Either we have the knowledge about what they're asking or we don't...

Oh this is all so nerve wracking!!!!

Ive been told two things for this info session regarding the essay question that could be things such as; "what are the challenges nurses deal with on a day to day basis" or, " discuss the challenges within healthcare in the next ten years " ( this question was on the January intake)

Which I think the second question is a very good question that you can give lots of meat, I would discuss things such as the lack of hospital beds and not enough community workers or services for those in the home and offloading patients to just doctors but forgetting about nurse practitioners, the lack of community services imepedes on those who want to stay home as well as old folks homes but then again in ten years we will be moving away from the baby boomers, does that mean more room in the hospitals moving forward? I think this is quite a discussion! : ...  let me know your thoughts ! 

Okay so not super hard questions you just have to know your stuff and be able to express your opinion well. If you don't know anything about Nursing they'll be able to tell...

Oh and thanks for sharing!

I attended the info session in January, and they do tell you not to release the question they ask in the info session to the following group! It does make sense because this then gives the group the next day an advantage and could potentially mean them getting an interview over you.

I totally agree. I am so sorry guys but they only give everyone 30 minutes to see how well everyone can do in such a short time. Giving the next group a day ahead is not really fair to everyone. It is the same as giving the answer to someone before the exam.

I was wondering about this...

Makes sense, they have to be fair.

Thanks for letting us know.

That's fair enough! I'm getting super anxious guys, I can't believe it's tomorrow, have any of you guys prepared somehow?

Anxious, nervous, terrified Ahhh!!!

Don't really know how I can prepare...have you done anything?

Nope, I'm not sure on what to expect so I'm just hoping it's not to hard and everything goes well. I am thinking of doing some research on the general career of a nurse, just to get some background knowledge. The essay is only 30 minutes, seems so less for an essay!

Have all you guys read through the document which was attached in the email, do you think that has anything to do with the essay topic.

Yeah 30 minutes ain't that much time. We can only do our best.

Where did you volunteer? I feel like that's where they expected us to gain all of our knowledge of what Nursing is like and what it entails etc.

I read through it, could...I really don't know!

(Is anyone else besides chma and me going on Wednesday?)

I volunteer for a Fraser Health clinic in Surrey! Nurses immunize babies and go to schools in the area to give kids their shots. I've learned quite a few things there. I hope to use some of that knowledge in the essay depending on the question asked.

Yea, anyone else going to tomorrow's session ?
