UFV BSN SEPTEMBER 2020 INTAKE

Published

Hi everyone,

I am currently in the process of applying to UFV's BSN program for the Fall 2020 intake and figured I would create a new post where those of us applying for the Fall 2020 intake can share/help each other out with the application/admission process. Anything from discussing GPA for pre-reqs, volunteer/work experience, etc. A little bit about me - I am just about finished my HSCI degree from SFU but took this semester off to retake some of the high school pre-reqs (Chem 11, Bio 12, Math 12). I did fairly well in these classes during high school but figured I could retake them again and see if I do any better.

As far as my healthcare related experience goes, I have been volunteering at a seniors home for 6 years now, and was recently hired by the same seniors home to work as a recreation aide. I also worked as a recreation aide at another seniors Independent Living/Complex Care facility for about 1.5 years. I also spent a year volunteering at a high intensity rehab unit where I helped the OT facilitate various exercise groups (this was during a time where I was still unsure between OT and nursing).

I'm hoping to complete my high school pre reqs by the beginning of January so that I can make the January 31 deadline. This will be my first time applying to UFV or any nursing program for that matter.

Hopefully this forum can be a place where us prospective UFV BSN students can help each other throughout the application/admission process and give each other pointers! Best of luck everyone! ?

I wasn't very confident in mine either, I just about completely blanked from nerves and couldn't think of anything. Then when she said there was 14 minutes left and I only have 1 paragraph written I was panicking hard. And again at 9 minutes I still only had 2, then I basically blacked out and my brain took over and somehow I finished the rest and had 2 minutes to spare. I liked the way the info session was online but like Chantal I'm not excited about the interviews being online and possibly written but we will see maybe it'll be easier and not as stressful since we won't see all the other applicants?

Hi guys this is unrelated, but I'm looking for help! I'm not currently a UFV student, but I'm looking to take Chem 083. Does anyone know how I can apply and register for this course? Thank you!

Has anyone gotten emails yet? I’m so nervous waiting

I have not yet, no. I wonder if they’ll just email all the successful applicants on Thursday, or if emails will start going out before then?

From what I understood it sounded like on Thursday successful people will hear back and then interviews on the 20th and on June 8th acceptance letters will be sent out. Either way I haven’t heard anything yet either ?

I think you have to be registered as a student at UFV before you can register for the class. Try reaching out to an advisor to get the ball rolling - there's a contact email on the website. ********** is an incredible professor, sign up for her course if you can!

So they don’t really differentiate, my math mark is 96% but they only view it as an A. In theory I guess it’s an advantage to go to UFV and do them but I’m not sure if you get more points for an A-/A/A+ or if they just count that as an A to make it fair for people who’ve completed at the high school level. Not sure if that makes much sense? They seem pretty hush hush about most of it and don’t really want to answer many questions that are too specific. Many people asked questions about the application process and points during my info session and were given super vague answers.

Yes, you're right, they sure seem to not be super clear about things. Thank you for clearing that up for me!

It actually makes no difference in having a A+ or an A-. An A receives 4 points and a B 3 points, if you are applying with 4 A’s then your max amount of points you can get is 16 for your prerequisites. Then your volunteer hours, and your references and essay, interview questions all get a score.

Ahh OK. Thank you for clearing that up for me!

Not sure about anyone else but I got my interview invite this afternoon ?

I got one too!!

Oh great! Good for you both! I haven’t heard anything yet. Fingers crossed. Maybe they’re sending them out in alphabetical order? (My last name is at the very end so I’m used to being last)....trying to stay optimistic!

I got an interview invite today too at 3pm!!

That’s great!
