UFV BSN SEPTEMBER 2020 INTAKE

Published

Hi everyone,

I am currently in the process of applying to UFV's BSN program for the Fall 2020 intake and figured I would create a new post where those of us applying for the Fall 2020 intake can share/help each other out with the application/admission process. Anything from discussing GPA for pre-reqs, volunteer/work experience, etc. A little bit about me - I am just about finished my HSCI degree from SFU but took this semester off to retake some of the high school pre-reqs (Chem 11, Bio 12, Math 12). I did fairly well in these classes during high school but figured I could retake them again and see if I do any better.

As far as my healthcare related experience goes, I have been volunteering at a seniors home for 6 years now, and was recently hired by the same seniors home to work as a recreation aide. I also worked as a recreation aide at another seniors Independent Living/Complex Care facility for about 1.5 years. I also spent a year volunteering at a high intensity rehab unit where I helped the OT facilitate various exercise groups (this was during a time where I was still unsure between OT and nursing).

I'm hoping to complete my high school pre reqs by the beginning of January so that I can make the January 31 deadline. This will be my first time applying to UFV or any nursing program for that matter.

Hopefully this forum can be a place where us prospective UFV BSN students can help each other throughout the application/admission process and give each other pointers! Best of luck everyone! ?

Just got my info session invite at 2:20 this afternoon! I think they’re having to send the emails out individually or something. My session is on May 4th ?

I just received an invitation to the May 4th info session as well ?

Also got an info session invite! Super nervous because I don’t know the essay topic

I also am invited to tomorrow’s information session. For the essay, are we typing it on a computer and emailing it in? Or do they want us to hand write it like people would have done pre-pandemic?

We type it out and email it. If you read the original email sent from health studies it explains it all ?

You will type it onto the “essay form” that should have been attached to the info session invite.

OK thanks! I have the essay form they sent, but the instructions seemed unclear to me.

“The first 30 minutes of the session will be allocated to writing an essay, which is part of the selection process. You will be required to write the application essay and email the essay to [email protected] within 15 minutes of completion.”

I wasn’t sure if “write” meant hand-write and then send it back, or type it out. I much prefer typing.

Thanks for asking, I wasn't too sure from the instructions either.

After the essay let’s talk about how it went! So stressed

Agreed! I’m also feeling a bit anxious. I wonder what they’ll ask is to write about?

Good luck everyone in the info session today! I'm sure you all will do great! Cindy said that there are 4 groups since it all has to be online this time around so make sure you don't post the question on here since there might still be 2 more groups to go.

I wonder how many applicants are in this round in total then ?
