UFV BSN SEPTEMBER 2020 INTAKE

Published

Hi everyone,

I am currently in the process of applying to UFV's BSN program for the Fall 2020 intake and figured I would create a new post where those of us applying for the Fall 2020 intake can share/help each other out with the application/admission process. Anything from discussing GPA for pre-reqs, volunteer/work experience, etc. A little bit about me - I am just about finished my HSCI degree from SFU but took this semester off to retake some of the high school pre-reqs (Chem 11, Bio 12, Math 12). I did fairly well in these classes during high school but figured I could retake them again and see if I do any better.

As far as my healthcare related experience goes, I have been volunteering at a seniors home for 6 years now, and was recently hired by the same seniors home to work as a recreation aide. I also worked as a recreation aide at another seniors Independent Living/Complex Care facility for about 1.5 years. I also spent a year volunteering at a high intensity rehab unit where I helped the OT facilitate various exercise groups (this was during a time where I was still unsure between OT and nursing).

I'm hoping to complete my high school pre reqs by the beginning of January so that I can make the January 31 deadline. This will be my first time applying to UFV or any nursing program for that matter.

Hopefully this forum can be a place where us prospective UFV BSN students can help each other throughout the application/admission process and give each other pointers! Best of luck everyone! ?

Honestly, I didn't really prep at all because I had noo idea what they would ask! It was nerve-wracking not knowing what the questions would be but looking back I prefer that as I probably would have waaay over thought my answers if I wasn't put on the spot like that!

what kinds of questions do they ask?

Specializes in HCA.

I don’t think they’re allowed to say cause of the non-disclosure that people have to sign ? everyone I’ve asked always just tell me to relax and not stress but have never said anything about the questions

OK. makes sense.

Yes sorry that is right ? But it is all based off your personal opinions and experiences, you will do just fine!!

Is the essay question during the info session more focused on nursing as a profession? I'm going to be applying for the Jan 2021 intake and while I understand that the interview is more geared towards personal experiences, work ethic, etc., I'm curious to know about the essay. Also, if it's OK with you, would you mind sharing the grades you received in the pre-req courses and your work/volunteer experience? Thanks in advance!

The essay question was very broad and nothing you need to research in depth about nursing. I applied with 3 A’s from high school and both anatomy and physiology courses ( as my bio bark) with an A-.

Hi Everyone!

I am in my first year of nursing @ufv and remember how stressful the whole application process was. I checked the forum for my intake constantly LOL. I just came across this one and thought I would drop in.

CONGRATS & goodluck on the interviews. If anyone has any questions let me know! I honestly didn't do to well on my essay so if you are in that boat, you can definitely still take it home with the interview.

As someone who didn't do so well on the essay this is super encouraging thank you!!

May I ask how you're doing in the program so far? How is it with everything being online now?

It is very broad, every intake has a very different question but read over the BCCNP stuff they will send you and you will be 100% fine! The knowledge you need of the profession for the essay is pretty basic as well.

my grades were an 87% in pre-cal 11, 92% bio 12, 90% chem 11, and 86% eng 12.

As for work experience, I am a care aide working in long term care and had about 400 hrs at the time I applied :)

best of luck to you

No worries!! The interview is worth far more points than the essay so go easy on yourself!! It is stressful writing on the spot like that. I personally found the interview much easier.

I am doing pretty well in the program thank you! Shifting to online was definitely different, but the instructors either had classes in a Skype like format or they pre-recorded lectures and were always just an email away for extra help. So although it wasn’t ideal, it’s manageable:)

Good luck this morning everyone!

How does everyone feel after the interview?

I feel pretty good about it! Does anyone know the exact time we ended the interview? I hope I submitted mine within 10 min I was having some email issues. Also I heard something about only 68 of us? Wasn’t paying attention but I heard there was supposed to be 90 of us originally .
