Hi everyone,
I am currently in the process of applying to UFV's BSN program for the Fall 2020 intake and figured I would create a new post where those of us applying for the Fall 2020 intake can share/help each other out with the application/admission process. Anything from discussing GPA for pre-reqs, volunteer/work experience, etc. A little bit about me - I am just about finished my HSCI degree from SFU but took this semester off to retake some of the high school pre-reqs (Chem 11, Bio 12, Math 12). I did fairly well in these classes during high school but figured I could retake them again and see if I do any better.
As far as my healthcare related experience goes, I have been volunteering at a seniors home for 6 years now, and was recently hired by the same seniors home to work as a recreation aide. I also worked as a recreation aide at another seniors Independent Living/Complex Care facility for about 1.5 years. I also spent a year volunteering at a high intensity rehab unit where I helped the OT facilitate various exercise groups (this was during a time where I was still unsure between OT and nursing).
I'm hoping to complete my high school pre reqs by the beginning of January so that I can make the January 31 deadline. This will be my first time applying to UFV or any nursing program for that matter.
Hopefully this forum can be a place where us prospective UFV BSN students can help each other throughout the application/admission process and give each other pointers! Best of luck everyone! ?

Don’t stress that girl! In person we had 2 minutes at each station and at some I definitely talked at least a minute and a half! There is nothing wrong with thorough answers and I highly doubt having longer answers would change anything

my grades were an 87% in pre-cal 11, 92% bio 12, 90% chem 11, and 86% eng 12.
As for work experience, I am a care aide working in long term care and had about 400 hrs at the time I applied ?best of luck to you
Thank you so much for clarifying, it means a lot! I'm sorry to bug you with all these questions but you've been so helpful, so thank you! I was wondering if I could bug you with one more question LOL. Do you know whether we can take the university equivalents of UFV HSCI 111 and HSCI 113 (the A&P courses in the BSN program) before hand at another university so that we don't need to take them once getting accepted to UFV's BSN program?
For work experience, I have worked a similar amount of hours as you in long term care, but as a recreation aide. Hopefully they think it's good enough! For references, they don't specify how many they want... would I be OK with sending 3-4 references, or is that too much? Sorry again for all the questions but I figured you've already been through the process so any help is super appreciated! ?

Hi! no worries I am here to help! I know application is a stressful & long process.
Yes you can! Although, apparently UFV has a rule that you have to take 111 & 113 or equivalent at the same school so if you do, make sure you finish both so you don't have to redo 111 ? You can connect with an advisor or check to see what programs transfer over.
Recreation aide is definitely enough as that is direct patient contact! What I would do is send one reference from someone higher up like your supervisor and then another from a co-worker.
Hope this helps

I'm currently taking A&P I at VCC and plan on taking A&P II in the fall. LOL I haven't even got accepted yet but I'm taking it in hopes of making life a bit easier for myself IF I get admitted into the program haha (fingers crossed) Thank you once again, hope you are enjoying the program ?

Ahh OK, that's good to know! I'm currently taking A&P at VCC and it transfers over. LOL I'm not even applying until next month but I figured I should get whatever courses I can out of the way to make life easier if I get accepted. Thank you for clarifying, all the best to you and I hope you get into the program! Good luck!
Hey guys (yet again LOL),
I hope the waiting process hasn't been too tough on you all... I can't imagine how nerve racking it must be. I just had 2 of my supervisors at work fill out the health care experience reference form, but wanted to know if any of you had them write a separate letter of recommendation as well? I know the website doesn't specifically mention anything about submitting a separate letter, but there isn't all that much space on the reference form, especially if I would want one of my referee's to comment on my leadership roles. What do you think? Did any of you submit a separate letter as well?
Thanks again!

Yeah, I also thought you guys would've heard back by now considering past September intakes have usually received invites around mid May. I'm sure the delay must be COVID related, and no one else seems to have received an offer yet either, so don't stress too much! I'm sure you will get in. I'll keep my fingers crossed and pray for all of you, LOL. ?

I definitely agree with that, talking within three minutes is much easier then typing especially when I’m not the best at typing. I guess we will all find out soon though! Good luck everyone!
