UF accelerated BSN 2021

Hey everybody! Anyone applying for the above mentioned program? I haven't had luck finding any threads, in regard to this, for that specific year. I would like to find people who are so we can keep in touch through this process.

Hi Elizaveta! I cannot speak much on jacksonville, but I am currently living in Gainesville. Feel free to inbox me.

There's lots of good housing around here (in my opinion) and public transportation and commutability is also very  nice (if that is your vibe). I do think there is a perfect spot for everyone here since there are so many different types of neighborhoods and housing options. Some are more geared towards undergrad students, some towards graduate/professional, and some towards families, etc. If you have kids I'd personally stay a little further from the undergrad housing just because it could get noisy.

Check out places around Archer Rd, South of 16th avenue, east of 13th. I would personally stay away from stuff north of university just because that is where lots of undergrad stuff happens and bars are, so again the noise.

Again feel free to message me abt gainesville housing ? I've been here for almost 6 years

^^Agree to archer road traffic ? it's horrendous! I've found myself sitting in traffic for an hour trying to travel 1.5 miles if I catch myself leaving at the wrong time.

An hour in traffic for a 1,5 mile?? That’s insane! Coming from Miami I was hoping to get a break from traffic? thank you for all the info!!

I don’t think it is an hour. The longest I’ve ever sat on archer was maybe 20 to 30 minutes. But I have lived on all different sides of town and I agree over by 13th street is a great area. I live by the oaks mall now and I love it there too, but Newberry can get busy sometimes

I lived in Gainesville for thirteen years, and the area for eighteen years. There are houses that you can find in the area and apartments. Having two kids (just like me) I would try to find something that isn't as close to downtown or Archer Road, because it is a lot more students in those areas and, therefore, a lot more parties and noise (IDK how it is now that we have to deal with  COVID.). My family is still there and they hate to deal with Archer Road. They live on the NW side of town. If I get accepted into the program, I would look for housing in the NW, too. Then, you would travel down 13th street every day. While you would still hit traffic, it wouldn't be as bad as Archer Road.

You can also find housing in places like Archer or Alachua, but then you will be traveling. Archer and Tower Road has houses and apartments and there is a good elementary school on Tower Road.

Hope this helps! ?

Thank you for all the info! I certainly would want to stay away from the young partying crowd. I realize that it’s either one or the other, being close to uni is to deal with youngsters and parties or a little away and get some quiet and peace.

my daughter is in 6th grade going into 7th, do you know any good middle schools?

Thanks again for all the info!!

I’m from South Florida too and it’s nothing like Miami traffic. You may have to really plan the times you leave and stuff though. There’s very specific times that it’s busy around there, especially around Shands which I would imagine is going to be where y’all will be a lot.

I applied to Jacksonville only. If I get in, my three kids and I relocated to Palm Coast, FL a few years back. It’s nice and quiet, we love it. I just plan to commute an hour to Jax.

Maybe not a full hour (sure felt like it though ?). Def can make a trip longer than expected. I live down by the hospital so I'm very fortunate to just be able to walk/bike to work.

I didn’t specify which program I want to get in, I figured it would give me a better opportunity I get in, but who knows for sure??‍♀️, I’ve been to Jacksonville a while back and I remember I liked it. Thinking about such a massive move is stressing me out, though I moved a lot. But it would be first for me to not have support system around. I really hope we hear something before Friday. It makes it so close to the start of the program. But as someone mentioned, may be the start of it will be online and we wouldn’t have to worry about moving straight away??‍♀️

That is true! I hope for before Friday as well. Mainly because I know some people applied to multiple programs and have to commit/provide payment to a program soon. So I do understand why it'd be nice to hear back and weigh all options. Best of luck to everyone ?

I had the same though, but after speaking the the Jax campus advisor, she told me if I really want Jax to apply just for that. She said they admit 40 so chances are good. I’m really feeling like that may not be the case now. ? But we shall see.

If you get accepted to Jacksonville, I highly suggest looking in the the St Augustine or Flagler County area. They have two of the best schools districts in the state. Palm Coast has an insanely low crime rate. Cost of living is very good. It’s not as populated and crazy as Jax or St Augustine. Your kids will love it. If we both get in, I’d be totally down to link up for study friends, possible car pool if we’re close to each other, and kid dates. I have a 9th grade girl, 7th grade boy, and 5th grade boy.

Thanks again for all the info!!

My little brother went to Westwood Middle. Anything around there is good, as long as you don't go too far east on 8th street. Then you might start running into the younger crowd.

My nephew went to PK Yonge for middle school, and both of my nephews now go there for high school. I've heard phenomenal things about PK Yonge! Also, PK Yonge's schedule is the same as UF's schedule because it is affiliated with UF and located on their campus, east of 13th street and north of 16th avenue. My daughters will be in elementary, but if we are still there for middle school, I will try to get them into PK Yonge. You have to fill out an application and they are randomly selected.

It probably is closer to 30 to 40 minutes, but if you moved out west Archer Road, there is another way that most locals take. Most locals don't like the traffic. My family doesn't even go to Archer Road anymore. I lived in San Diego for four years, so Gainesville traffic is a joke. I just laugh and shake my head at my family...really. It's not that bad.

Somehow, during all this time, I didn't think about Jacksonville)) Gainsville was just stuck with me. Now talking to all of you, I realize that it could be any?   From all that you are saying, it seems like a perfect place to be! My daughter goes to an excellent school here in Miami, and it's so important for me to find something similar in academics level for her. Thank you for all the info! I really just hope to be accepted, whichever campus, I know they both good. I am not looking forward to continuing the application process for other schools as I will have to take more classes and take the TEAS test. I already took HESI for this program, like all of us, I guess. I wonder how different HESI from TEAS. I heard TEAS is harder.

Wow, thank you! I think I saw it somewhere during my research, but this is very helpful, feedbacks from real people are the best))) Thank you!!
