UF Accelerated BSN 2017

U.S.A. Florida

Published

Hello everyone,

I have already gotten extremely worried about the UF ABSN application process even before it starts! So here I am creating a thread to share my concerns with you all who may be on the same boat with me.

At the moment, my biggest concern is that my overall undergraduate GPA (which is from a foreign country) is embarrassingly low (under 3.0 on a 4.0 scale) and my upper division GPA is probably even lower, due to my lack of seriousness during my undergraduate studies. BUT, when I came to the US for my Master's degree at FIU, I became more serious with school and graduated with a cumulative GPA of 3.85. I did read that UF website states only GPA from the most recent 60 credit hours or cumulative GPA from Master's or PhD is calculated for admission criteria, nonetheless, I am still very concerned that overall GPA from all colleges attended will be taken into account, and my undergraduate GPA would have dragged me down.

I am currently working part-time at a home health company as a CNA while taking my pre-requisites, so far I am straight A's and have Microbiology in the Fall and A&PII in the Spring left to be finished. I have no idea how much chance I stand for the UF accelerated program but it is my only hope and dream because all other Universities require a cumulative GPA of 3.0.

I would really appreciate it if anyone can share their thoughts with me. Thank you!

Sorry about you guys' experiences with taking pre reqs at UF. May I ask why you are going through this hassle to take their prerequisites rather than other colleges? Are there any possible benefits for applying their ABSN program? Good luck!

I was just doing it because it's cheap and easy. I do have to take one prerequisite at Florida State College though. I assume the advantage (if any) would be that the application committee would know exactly what class you took and how you scored based on their grade scale and they would see that you're already a UF caliber student (if you did well).

Hey guys! I will be applying for Summer 2017 as well... FYI application opened 9/7/16 :) good luck!!!

Hey everyone, I will be starting my application sometime soon. I'm a little nervous about my resume, however. I have been a stay-at-home mom for the last 6 years, so my resume is essentially blank. Recently, I started substitute teaching and I'll begin volunteering at a local hospital next week. I worry that it's just not enough. By the time applications are due, that's only a couple of months of "experience" to admit to. Any advice?

Hi everyone!

Does anyone have their personal statement done? I would be willing to give feedback in hopes that someone would look over mine when it's more put together and give me some feedback as well. This goes for resumes too! I am curious to see what would be beneficial to include or leave out on there!

What kind of positions/volunteer is everyone else including in their application?

Hello everyone,

I'm answering a few previous posts. I applied to UF for pre-reqs because I forgot about community college options. I've been a stay at home mom for almost three years so I'm in the same boat as someone else. My husband works like crazy so I don't have time to do anything but watch kids and now study for these pre-reqs. My post-bac application is in and now I'm deciding who to ask for references. Who are you guys asking? I should start on the personal statement too but dang I'm so swamped with these courses and kids and a house and I'm too old for this career change lol! I am becoming doubtful I will get all As. Probably an A and two solid A- so we shall see how the admission committee likes them apples.

oh forgot to mention that I'm submitting my CV. It's like 10 pages or so, mostly from publications and conferences and very little else. I haven't volunteered since 2008 (before kids).

I don't think experience is a huge factor. I mean, you're not a nurse yet so they can't expect a lot of clinical exposure for the majority of applicants (at least I wouldn't think).

I just submitted my NursingCAS App, and they have my mailed copy of admission.

Has anyone received anything back to either of them? Or know of any dates when things will happen

I see the deadline for everything in, is December 1st.

From what I've seen on previous year's threads, they won't send out admission decisions until early February. After the deadline, they may just contact you about missing application materials, but we won't hear anything about admission till at least February.

I just submitted my nursingcas application, I will be graduating with a bachelors of health science from UF in April! Hoping all my application materials are verified before the December 1st deadline! Good luck to everyone!

I received an email once my post bac application was received

Am I the only one that hasn't submitted my CAS yet? Did you all fill out the experience achievements and certifications section or let your CV do it?

No, I haven't submitted mine.... I'm looking to have everything completed by next week.
