UF Accelerated BSN 2017

U.S.A. Florida

Published

Hello everyone,

I have already gotten extremely worried about the UF ABSN application process even before it starts! So here I am creating a thread to share my concerns with you all who may be on the same boat with me.

At the moment, my biggest concern is that my overall undergraduate GPA (which is from a foreign country) is embarrassingly low (under 3.0 on a 4.0 scale) and my upper division GPA is probably even lower, due to my lack of seriousness during my undergraduate studies. BUT, when I came to the US for my Master's degree at FIU, I became more serious with school and graduated with a cumulative GPA of 3.85. I did read that UF website states only GPA from the most recent 60 credit hours or cumulative GPA from Master's or PhD is calculated for admission criteria, nonetheless, I am still very concerned that overall GPA from all colleges attended will be taken into account, and my undergraduate GPA would have dragged me down.

I am currently working part-time at a home health company as a CNA while taking my pre-requisites, so far I am straight A's and have Microbiology in the Fall and A&PII in the Spring left to be finished. I have no idea how much chance I stand for the UF accelerated program but it is my only hope and dream because all other Universities require a cumulative GPA of 3.0.

I would really appreciate it if anyone can share their thoughts with me. Thank you!

Hi hnurse7, I petitioned as well and hadn't heard anything until today when I was offered a spot for the Gainesville program. I declined, as I've already accepted elsewhere. Good luck!

Hello G8trGrad can you tell me how you petitioned and got offered a spot. I am currently going through this process and looking for some insight if you wouldn't mind sharing! Thank you in advance!

Hi all! I'm waitlisted too! I was actually initially rejected but had a face-to-face with Kenneth Wynn, and it turns out they made an error reviewing my application (they did not look at my masters GPA, only my undergrad), so they put me on the waitlist for now. I'm definitely keeping my fingers crossed! He actually told me that they had a lot of admitted students drop their seats right up until orientation last year, so don't completely count yourself out if you don't hear soon! Good luck to everyone ?

Hello did you receive a declined letter before you met with Kenneth? Did you take a personality test? I have met with Kenneth and he has begun to help me petition but I am looking for some advice from previous students. Did you end up getting accepted?

Omg!! Same thing happened to me, but he made me fill out a petition. I have a 4.0 masters GPA though so your post gives me hope!!!

Hello m.whitelaw, what petition did Kenneth have you fill out?? I was sent the college petition through registrar and the comments "The decision on your petition has been deferred. Student Petitions Committee does not have the authority to grant your request. Please contact your academic advisor" Did your petition did the same thing? Did you get into contact with anyone other than Kenneth about appealing or petitioning?

Anyone who appealed hear back yet?

Hello hnurse7,

How did your appeal process work? Who did you speak with? Thank you in advance!

I did the petition. I am so happy! ?

Hello ufgatorjax.

How did your petition process work? Who did you speak with? How did you turn it in?

I did the petition with Kenneth through the registrar office because that's what I was directed to do. Kenneth had to write a piece of the petition for me. But my petition status status. "The decision on your petition has been deferred. Student Petitions Committee does not have the authority to grant your request. Please contact your academic advisor." Did yours say the same? Any advice? Thank you in advance!
