UF accelerated BSN Summer 2019

U.S.A. Florida

Hello!

It's only May but I am already working on getting my ducks in a row for the Post-bacc application. I thought it would be nice to start a thread so applicants can support each other through the process! I know I have a million questions already and I am trying hard not to pester admissions.

I am so excited to be almost done with my prerequisites and I am looking forward to finally applying this Fall!

I would love to hear about everyone's background, projects, questions, and hopefully we can help each other out.

Good luck to all! We got this!

I got the “glitch” email too and another confirming that I was indeed going to Jax.

How early are we able to start applying for scholarships specific to the college of nursing? I noticed that there are quite a few on UF's scholarship search, but they said to contact the school of nursing. I was just wondering how soon we could ask the college of nursing for applications.

I was also accepted to JAX (my only preference). Super excited to meet y'all!

Hi @Lissannbre! Congrats on getting accepted! I am a current student in Jacksonville.

The actual College of Nursing does not offer any scholarships until the final two semesters of school. An email will be sent out with an application in the fall semester and if you are accepted for the scholarship it will be allocated between the spring and summer semester. Kenneth will send emails out with various scholarship opportunities, but sometimes these have certain qualifications. Hope this helps!

Mentors or current/prior students of this program: do students work during the program? If so, how many?

Hi @futuredblgator. There are very few students that have worked throughout the program, but I personally have not. The first two semesters are a huge learning curve and the majority of your free time away from classes will be spent studying new material. Plus I 100% recommend, and I cannot stress this one enough, taking time for yourself to relax every now and again. This semester has been a little lighter so it would be more feasible to get a part time position.

Current students - I can’t seem to find the answer for the ABSN route as the tuition is a little confusing. How much is the program or per semester how much have you had to pay? Just trying to prepare and get an estimate. ?

Hi @bcordero. The cost per semester is ~$3,500-$3,800 for in state tuition. I would say the total cost is around $15,000 - plus some additional fees here and there. Very similar to undergrad.

Hi! Some students do work, but it is very hard the first and second semester. The third semester some students have started working but not many. The clinical schedules vary each semester and by weeks for some of them. I will say the new cohort has a new curriculum so I cannot vouch for all courses and clinical times. This is just how the current cohort and past cohorts have approached it! Let me know if you have any other questions ?

Anyone else trying to petition? Kenneth replies to my email and it seems like it’s a lost cause

Hey there, yes I am trying to appeal as well and just received the automated email response they must be sending to anyone who emailed about appealing.

It was a mistake! I got into the Gainesville campus. I can still go to the UF football games lol. PM me if you peeps want to know any questions.

Any out-of-staters?? I was accepted to Gainesville and I'm excited but I'm from NJ so it's definitely going to be an adjustment being so far from home (I did my undergrad in NY). Any advice from current students about being from out of state?

Hi @cpuf2017 and @TWB! Since there is a limited amount of space for students in both Jacksonville and Gainesville, the CON is more than likely waiting until they have a final count of students who "accept" their acceptance before they admit people from the waitlist or start to work with students that are petitioning. I am sorry the waiting game is terrible, but don't lose hope! All of the administration is very busy right now, so try your best to be patient.

Hey everyone! This is Sarah, your Accelerated BSN Gainesville Representative. Just wanted to say congratulations once again, and to remind all those accepted into the Gainesville campus to join the UF Accelerated Nursing Gainesville Class of 2020 Facebook page!!! ?
