Hi all!
It's pretty early on but I'd love to meet and chat with the potential applicants for this program. I also think it'd be great to have this forum in case we stumble upon application questions and such. Maybe some successful applicants in the past may pop in to say hello as well!
What are your feelings about this program or even UF in general? Are you applying to other programs? Where are you from?
I posted a little bit about this earlier in the thread too, but the first semester is pretty tough. Expect obligations (classes, clinicals, community experiences, labs, etc.) about 3-4 days per week, but they *try* to keep your Fridays free. They typically release a course schedule sometime in March (you'll be able to find it here, along with past schedules: Advising and Class Schedules >> Students >> College of Nursing >> University of Florida), but you won't know your specific clinical schedule until the semester starts. This year the summer semester starts on May 14, and they'll schedule an orientation day shortly before that (last year it was the week before classes). I was employed full-time before starting the program and I quit about 10 days before it started - however, I already lived in Gainesville, so I didn't have to worry about moving. Hope that's helpful!
Very helpful :) thanks so much, it really means a lot that you are taking time out of your schedule to answer my questions. Would you advise pre- studying anything before starting? If so, what would you say is most important to be brushed up on. I have not had anatomy 1 and 2 in years, so I know I need to start getting myself polished on that, but was wondering if there was anything else.
@healingtouch0915, it was most likely because you didn't have most of your prereqs done. Usually schools only allow you to have only 1 missing.
Wow thanks for the info. I am definitely not giving up being a healthcare professional, but I wanted to approach my next attempts the best way I can. I really can't wait to be part of the team as well! Good luck to all who made it, because this is really just the beginning!
I'm a member of the been rejected club. I got accepted this time but I have been trying to get into nursing school for a little over a year. I understand the feelings you are having right now; I've been there. All I can tell you is keep going! This is just one school. If you want to be a nurse; you will be a nurse. You just have to find the right place for you.As far as taking the TEAS, I would recommend it. Many other schools require it in the application process. I did not find the test to be difficult but I would recommend doing a few practice tests that you can find online. That should give you a feel for how you would do and whether or not you need to study for the test. Good luck to you! Keep persevering!
Thanks for the reply! Yeah I am not giving up. I just wanted to tackle this even harder next time. My GPA will be out by then too, and my prereq GPA should be around 3.7 etc. I really honestly did felt my application was not complete (I still have 4 prereqs I am taking currently). I am going to tackle it again with a stronger application with couple hundred hours of hands on clinical experience as well.
Most of my clinical or medical related stuff come from bit of CNA, and alot of research since I did premed. I think nursing schools like it if you do something like CNA and also shadow nurses as well.
Thank you for the encouragement. I gave came back to school and gave up everything to go down this path, so honestly, I have been emotinoal crushed before so this isn't too bad honestly hahaha. :)
Thanks for the info. Would you be interested in selling any of your books? Or do you have any suggestions on material that we can start familiarizing ourselves with. What was it like in the beginning ?Any piece of advice is welcomed. Thanks :)
bookwise? I personally used pdf and got older edition or rent. The books are expensive enough, and I get by without buying the books they require. they will tell you that books are mandatory. NOT! you can find the pdf. The only books you need to buy is the one that has online access for homework or quiz. otherwise? Don't buy the book.
During orientation they will try to sell you bundles. Save yourself some money and get it online if you prefer hardcopy.
