UF Accelerated BSN, Summer 2018

Published

Hi all!

It's pretty early on but I'd love to meet and chat with the potential applicants for this program. I also think it'd be great to have this forum in case we stumble upon application questions and such. Maybe some successful applicants in the past may pop in to say hello as well!

What are your feelings about this program or even UF in general? Are you applying to other programs? Where are you from?

Current students.

What should we expect our first semester to be like?

Whats the schedule like? Do you go in everyday?

What date did you start last year?

Just trying to get an idea of when I should quit my job

DOnt remember when you start, just google UF course schedule 2017-2018. I think it will be May 14. But could be wrong.

From what I heard, y'all will have two of the hardest courses combine into one semester. Pathophysiology and pharmacology. These are your core courses, so study hard. students failed this classes and had to drop from the program. I honestly do not know what the schedule will be, one thing for sure, y'all will get everything better than we are. We all complained a lot of stuffs and demanded change, unfortunately, UF listened and will change starting the next cohort. So lucky you!

Like I said, how bad do you want to be a nurse? We have one person who live 1 hour away, that commute to school every morning and after school, and have a full time job. And she still excel in her study. So know yourself, and you decide. It can be done.

What did you guys complain about that they are changing to make better? My deciding factor was based on people I know in the current cohort of class 2018 in the accelerated program and a lot have told me to go somewhere else other than UF if possible. I want to give UF a chance if they are changing for the better. Compared to their NCLEX score of 2017, they are below other Florida schools I have applied to (UNF and UCF). How well do you think UF is preparing you for the NCLEX?

Wonderful information! I want to be a nurse really bad, so I am prepared to do whatever it takes.! I downloaded a pharmacology book from audible and plan to start listening to it on my 45 min commute to work. Hopefully, this will help me start getting familiarized with the material. As far as Pathophysiology, I don't even know how to begin to prepare... YOU ROCK!

I was waitlisted. Quick questions for those that were accepted, did any of you have any outstanding prerequisites that you are finishing up now? Thank you and congratulations to everyone accepted!

Guess they changed the requirement. I was doing 4 of the prereqs on the spring semester before nursing school start in May. Ohh well, and now I am 6 months away from finishing :)

Honest opinion? Both Jax and Gville students will tell you that they dont prepare us enough. It is "learn your own" kind of thing. Remember, UF has done this for a while, and if they have not fixed anything until now, they are doing something wrong. I chose UF because I graduated from UF and I love to be a Gator, but if I knew about this, I would have chosen something else.

Talk to your friends, and hear their pro and cons. Don't just listen to me. Talk to other students. Regardless, nursing school is hard enough. Being in Jacksonville where we don't get any resources for anything, that makes it harder.

Well, I am 6 months away! Whoop Whoop!

One of the benefits being a UF Nursing student is that you are in the middle of two Level 1 trauma center in north Florida (UF Health Jax and Gainesville). Both hospitals will take preferences of hiring their students. The CNO for UF Health Jacksonville spoke to us that the reason why they are creating the Jax program is to hire the students to be UF Jax nurses. And she can be reached by email if you have questions about hiring etc. The same with Gainesville, the hospital will offer something called Graduate Nurse Bash at Hilton Gainesville where ALL nurses manager from ALL units will be there to speak with students and accept your resume. During that bash, you will have the opportunity to make an guarantee interview with 2 units of your choice. Most students will have an offer in April and the unit will hold your position until you get your license. That gives peace of mind if you are anxious about finding a job after school.

In Jacksonville, only UF students and Chamberlain students get to do rotation at UF Health Jax. And only UF Students will be taught how to use EPIC which is the electronic medical record. So as a UF students, you will work with the preceptor and you are able to documents your assessment and the preceptros will co-sign it. Other students will not have that opportunity.

What is the name of UF Jax group?

Very helpful :) thanks so much, it really means a lot that you are taking time out of your schedule to answer my questions. Would you advise pre- studying anything before starting? If so, what would you say is most important to be brushed up on. I have not had anatomy 1 and 2 in years, so I know I need to start getting myself polished on that, but was wondering if there was anything else.

I would definitely review as much A&P as you can. It will be tremendously helpful when you take pathophysiology - it's one of the harder courses in the program and having your A&P down pat will make it less painful. The anatomy part will also be helpful when you take Health Assessment. That said, I hadn't taken A&P I in nearly eight years and A&P II in four years by the time I entered the program, and I did quite well in both courses. You can do it!

Thanks for all the input ! Being someone who is very headstrong and willing to go out and seek resources on my own , I am excited For Jax campus . From what I understand this program has mixed reviews but I accepted the challenge when I applied . Every program has its pro's and con's but it is up to the student to remain focused and optimistic . Congratulations to those who were accepted and congratulations to the current students for making it this far. UF is an awesome school so I'm nothing but grateful for being accepted and becoming a double gator. I look forward to meeting all the jax students ! Go Gators !

Hi Ischopke1, I'm keeping my options open for personal reasons! My long-time boyfriend is in Orlando and we're getting anxious to live together, etc. Plus I will have already accomplished my goal of getting a degree from UF (currently an undergrad)! However, I was raised a Gator and will always be a Gator so I have a really tough choice to make if I do get into UCF! There's really no wrong answer, so I'm just trying to keep an open mind! Both are amazing programs and I'm absolutely thrilled to have been accepted!

I got accepted for the Gainesville campus! I had finished all of my pre-reqs before applying, I hope that helps! Don't give up because I think that several people are giving up spots!

I just created a facebook page for the Gainesville campus, it is listed as "UF Accelerated Nursing Gainesville Class of 2019"!

For some reason I couldn't find the page when I searched, would you mind adding me? My name is Katelyn McGraw and I believe my FB link is katie.mcgraw.14! Thanks in advance!
