2014 UCSF MEPN Applicants

Nursing Students Post Graduate

Published

Hey everyone! Given that applications are due a month from today, I figured it was about time to start a thread. How are everyone's personal statements and applications coming?

Hello! Does everyone have two GRE boxes on their UCSF status page? For some reason I have two boxes even though I only took the GRE once. One box says they've received the scores and the other says they haven't. Any one else have this?

Yes, looking forward to meeting you guys at the info session! susifen, I'll be sure to share some info here after the event.

While we're all waiting to hear back from UCSF, I thought I'd share my notes. To help me plan for my work schedule and vacation, I looked through the previous MEPN threads to determine approximate notification and interview dates.

2013: December 10

Hi wonderwad! Yes, my page says the same thing. I think it should be fine because I emailed the nursing office at the end of August and they said they received my scores. So, I think as long as you have one box saying it's received it should be okay :)

oh, and to all the former lurkers - welcome to the thread!!! I'm happy you decided to step out! We're all here to support each other through this and I hope to meet all of you soon! :)

The long wait is the worst! Also, how is everyone else doing dealing with all the fees? I'm applying to six programs so it's going to be expensive ESPECIALLY (ideally) if I get offered interview to all/most/some of the schools. Hope everyone is finding fun ways to pass the time and get their mind off the wait!

Hi All,

I was previously a lurker, but alas, I have broken my vow of silence to contribute to this eerily quiet thread. My GRE score was confirmed as received (mine does not have a second box for a second score or anything like that. Just one score, that was received).

I submitted/uploaded unofficial transcripts into the application (because the instructions said it was fine to do so). But the instructions also cautioned applicants to "be prepared to quickly submit official transcripts if/when needed". Last week I got an email from the dean's office asking for official transcripts. I sent them all the same day.

I am attending the Yale event on 10/11 in SF. If anyone else is there, say hello. Although, I'm not sure how you would know who I am. Perhaps we will all have to coordinate outfits ahead of time, or wear a t-shirt that says "UCSF thread contributor".

Good luck everyone!!! If any lurkers read this and have been invited for an interview at UCSF, you must create an account and write it on this thread! The suspense is killing us all, so lets share in the misery :nailbiting:

Welcome, droux! Sorry to briefly draw emphasis away from UCSF, but I'm curious about the 10/11 Yale even in SF. I've not heard of this; where did you find out about it, and is it specific to the SON? I received Yale's email newsletter earlier this week, but there was no mention of a west coast session.

Hi all, I think I might be the only one in the "I'm a current nursing student looking to transfer," boat.

I'm currently in nursing at USF's BSN program but already have a degree. I failed to get an interview last year with UCSF because they had just changed their rules where you need to have your prerequisites done prior to application submission. This year, I've got everything in. The downside though is my GRE scores were abysmal, so I'm hoping they'll look at other things.

I *really* hope they look at the fact that I have years of clinical experience (volunteer in Gay Men's clinic), plus already have done my Medical-Surgical rotation as well as SNF and rehabilitation...next semester will be my psychiatric.

Hope, hope, hope I at least get an interview.

Must be a typo, probably referring to the U Penn event

@Ames78, I think it's a typo. I'm pretty sure Yale's info sessions are all at the Yale campus.

@StephenAndrews, the GRE is only one part of the application, I don't think it'll override the rest of your experience and prereqs and everything

Hi everyone. I'm reapplying this year to the AGNP specialty. I interviewed last year for FNP but didn't make the final cut. I think I did not have a clear grasp on the role of a FNP hence my specialty change. Good luck to all!

Hey there, what were the biggest incongruences between what you thought about FNP and what it actually is? Just curious as to what motivated the switch!

Thanks ahead of time!
